YouTube will cooperate with MGM movie company such that people can watch MGM’s full-length movies and TV programs on the YouTube.
Google announces this cooperation between YouTube and MGM with the intention of appealing more advertisers to join this cooperation.
In the near future, people can watch the famous movies, such as American Gladiators on the YouTube. To involve advertisers into playing, there will be a lot of ads during the movies, while people watch movies on the YouTube. For YouTube, it wants to provide videos from diverse sources and creat profitable business models for their website. For MGM, it has confidence to appeal more consumers to go to the movies by cooperating with YouTube; like Jim Packer, the MGM’s co-president of worldwide television, said that “I don’t think you are going to be seeing a James Bond movie on YouTube”. Instead, MGM wants to promote more movies that are not so popular. Through this popular channel, YouTube, people can notice them. Due to the cooperation, movie companies release the copyright to YouTube and Google brings advertisers into playing. Google and MGM both can share the advertising benefit, if this model succeeds. In the end, I think consumers will be the bigger winners because we have more ways and choices to decide which movie we want to watch.
