Every fall, MCDM offers a Advanced Multimedia Storytelling class, at the end of which students produce short documentaries on a subject of their choice. While I haven’t taken the class, I enjoy seeing the work my classmates put together in such a short time.
In the course this fall, John Allen Yeager highlighted a cause close to the heart of Seattle TV personality Penny LeGate. This past June, LeGate’s 19-year-old daughter, Marah, lost a long battle with depression and drug addiction. Now LeGate, as well as her ex-husband, Mike Williams, and daughter, Molly, have set up The Marah Project, which provides funds for an ongoing internship program.
The program is offered in partnership with Teens in Public Service and Middle College High School, the alternative school Marah graduated from in 2011. You can visit The Marah Project to learn more and donate.
LeGate co-hosted KING 5 TV’s Evening Magazine and anchored the news at KIRO 7 TV. She currently works for The Seattle Channel and travels the world advocating for the poor through Rotary International. On Monday, watch KING 5′s Evening Magazine at 7:00 p.m. for their feature about The Marah Project.
