Viral Video: No Woman, No Drive

It doesn’t happen very often. On very rare occasions, though, someone posts a video that is not only topical and supremely entertaining but also beautifully crafted. So on this day of protest against the driving ban in Saudi Arabia, we’re as pleased as punch to bring you Hisham Fageeh’s parody on “No Woman, No Cry” by the late, great Bob Marley. For those of you unfamiliar with the reference to ovaries, a leading Saudi cleric, Sheikh Saleh Al-Loheidan, has tried to add a compassionate spin on the ban by announcing that driving is harmful to women’s ovaries. It seems appropriate in our global age of increased tolerance that a Saudi man supports women by parodying a Caribbean song. To our sisters – and brothers – in Saudi, this one’s for you. Whether you’re behind the wheel or not. And to you,Hisham Fageeh, thank-you.
