YouTube just released its top ten trending videos of 2013 list. Coming out on top with a staggering 279 million views is Norwegian comedy duo Ylvis with “The Fox (What Does the Fox Say?)”. Also on the list: three brands, music parodies, and, inevitably, the Harlem Shake. Not on the list: cats, crazy babies – the weird amateur video in general (except maybe the slightly disturbing Miley Cyrus impersonator). Online videos are getting more professional, better produced, engineered for “going viral”. Yes, the web and even YouTube are growing up.
So now, as a tribute to the old YouTube, the world of camcorder-wielding dads, bored teenagers, comment trolls, tinkerers, dreamers, and aspiring artists everywhere, let’s gather around, have some old school fun, and just watch this guy pour molten aluminum into a fire ant colony.
