The audience at the Inventions We Love session at this year’s Geekwire Summit came face-to-face with just that challenge, as GeekWire staff charged audience members with judging pitches from five entrepreneurs, then voting for their favorite via Twitter. Audience members got to choose from a wide array of innovative inventions.
For those seeking a new way to to check their heart rate, find out how many calories you’ve burned, and get feedback on running form, Sensoria pitched their new “Smart Socks” with embedded sensors and real time feedback via an app.
PicoBrew offered a unique way to enjoy beer crafted in your own kitchen. Load grain, hops, yeast, and water into the PicoBrew appliance, wait a week and delicious homemade beer is ready!
For planetary or intergalactic dreamers, Planetary Resources has a new spin on drone technology. With a focus on the potential of mining asterioids, they plan to launch their first asteroid-seeking drone within the month.
ICPooch sought to help the ten million dogs across the country that suffers from separation anxiety with their invention. Their video sharing and treat delivery system allows owners to check in with their dog via video, and deliver a treat from a distance with the click of a button.
Poppy rounded out the group with their invention, which has appeal for lovers of 3D movies or the 3D stereo-optic ViewMaster from the days of yesteryear. Poppy‘s viewing device attaches to your iPhone to turn pictures into a 3D experience any place, any time, right on your phone.
In the end, the Geekwire Summit crowd selected ICPooch as their favorite invention. Brooke Martin, ICPooch’s 14-year-old inventor from Spokane, wowed the crowd with her convincing pitch and solid delivery style. And, of course, who can resist pictures of adorable dogs?
