This weekend, the moment many Americans have been waiting for finally came when Hillary Clinton announced her candidacy for president. Rumors she would run have been circulating for years, basically since her failed run in 2008, and she’s had no shortage of support coming in from national politicians, state governors, and current & former U.S. senators, among others.
With the presidential election cycle starting ever earlier, I wanted to know more about who already has their hat in the ring for Hillary. Of the those on the long list of endorsements on her presidential campaign Wikipedia page, the U.S. senators stuck out as an influential group of interest to me. I wanted to know more about them, like which states do they serve? Are they all Democrats? Were there any Republicans? Did any of them serve in the Senate while former President (future first-husband?) Bill Clinton was in office? Will any of them be up-for re-election soon? And how, exactly, did they show their endorsement?
To get a clearer picture of Hillary’s senatorial support, I scraped a ton of data from her presidential campaign page and threw it into the visualization below. Check it out to explore those questions and learn more about the many senators who have already endorsed Hillary Clinton for president.
