Flip the Media
A blog about the digital media revolution

Just got a mail sent to the digital media working group at UW from Phillip Thurtle. Thought I’d post to the blog in case some students are not on that email list:

“Hello all,

I’m writing to see if any of you have used “the pool” to post your projects? http://pool.newmedia.umaine.edu/index.php

It strikes me that this might be a dynamic medium for sharing and developing digital media. I’m curious to hear what others think.

Description from WWW site:
“online environment is an experiment in sharing art, text, and code–not just sharing digital files themselves, but sharing the process of making them. In place of the single-artist, single-artwork paradigm favored by the overwhelming majority of studio art programs and collection management systems, The Pool stimulates and documents collaboration in a variety of forms, including multi-author, asynchronous, and cross-medium projects.”

  1. I was confused with the site entry page. All I saw was java, java, java (confess I don’t read sites, just scan, me like pretty pictures)… I got it once I entered the ‘pool’!

This seems like a sophisticated attempt to ‘filter and qualify’ ideas or content… and yet one of the highest ranking site both on recognition and approval is ‘Screw the elderly, a humorous sarcastic site’. Interesting…

Will play more with it, may be good idea to get some feedback on your work… any one care to submit a project to see what happens?
