I have to admit I’m not much of a “social media” guy (my friend count on Facebook finally broke single digit, thanks to our class). I heard of Twitter when it first came out, signed up. After announcing to the world some earth-shattering events like “I ate lunch”, I figured I was done with it. No use, no fun. Nobody around me care for it.

The class has made me take a second look at it. In just a few days, I have found it interesting enough. I’d love to hear your opinions.

Mobility

There are a number of mobile applications that allow users to send tweets. I downloaded Twinkle on iPhone, and quickly found mobile will be the ultimate social network for micro-blogging. It is really about that “anytime anywhere” concept. With twinkle, I can also see those active twitters around me, say, in a 1 mile radius. I found it little spooky in an apartment setting. But, great to bring to a party.

The latest release of Twinkle is supposed to send location information. I haven’t got it working. Anybody?

Visualization

Try Twitter Friends Network, which provides a cool visual graph of twitter followers around you, and those following them. You can also see their tweets. Imagine the features that can be added to navigation, you will see its potential.

Because of its open API, twitter applications are coming up everywhere. It is agile, and “real time”. Twitter is truly becoming a platform. I am sure that’s something Facebook and Google are taking notice.
