Interesting posting yesterday on the PR 20/20 marketing and PR Blog. It notes that among PR Week’s Power List of the top 25 influential people, NONE of them are Twitter users.
The blog posting cites amazement that these people who were awarded the mark of “power” are not even innovative enough to use the social media service. To me, however, this draws attention to two possibilities:
- These Powers Listers are indeed missing something and are old-fashioned in their ways
- OR – Twitter really isn’t a necessary tool for modern success

Christy,
Interesting possibilities presented. My experience has been that PR pros not using Twitter (myself included up until a week ago) think it’s a waste of time, and just another fad, while those using it find it to be an absolutely essential communications tool.
I’m not sure what they really mean by “powerful”, I have heard people saying the George W. Bush is the most “powerful” man in the world, I have also heard that Bill Gates is the most “powerful” man alive. So what media classify as powerful may not be measure the same way. On the other hand, new social media tools can give power to some people. I wonder why none of the “powerful” men are using Twitter.
3. OR – Twitter really isn’t a necessary tool for modern success… YET
