I think gdgt is a great idea. I've been following @gdgt on Twitter since the announcement of gdgt site last September. I agree though, that it won't really "compete" with Engadget and Gizmodo only because they are two different kind of sites. Peter said it complements it and I can see that. Personally, I read Engadget and Giz everyday and subscribe to the posts. On gdgt it seems you can subscribe to activity of users, but I wouldn't really be interested in that. I think it's a site that I will check once a day, refer friends looking to buy gadgets, and comment on gadgets when I feel the urge to do so. I think it's a great site and see it more of a place to go instead of say CNET or Consumer Reports when looking for reviews and to compare electronics and accessories. The site has enormous potential and as a consumer and gadget geek myself, I can't wait to see where gdgt will take things in the future. Great post.

Thanks, lots of really good analysis here.

You're right, we're not trying to compete with Engadget or Gizmodo, we thought there was a big opportunity to do something complementary to what was already out there.

Our big challenge, as you've noted, is to make the site something that people use every day (or at least frequently). We think we're part of the way there, but we're going to be introducing new features later this year that will address that.
