Government 2.0

Most people think of government agencies as being behind the times as far as technology. They recall cumbersome Web sites and endless options on an automated phone system. In the past this might have been true, but now government agencies are seeing the great opportunities social media offers. Many agencies now have blogs, social networking pages, podcasts, and YouTube videos. Agencies are able to use social media to reach out to citizens without having to rely on main stream media for distribution.

I also harbor secret doubts (not so secret now!) that it is inevitable and necessary. Last November author Andrew Keen wrote an article defending these same doubts and promoting his book “The Cult of the Amateur”.

Audiences; The Greying of America

Speaking as a baby boomer (b. 1946, so I’m in the vanguard), I will be having lots of extra time in semi-retirement. Perfect for surfing the net. I’m part of a huge potential audience. And market.

But I know how to use practically zilch social media. (I can read stuff, but…. ) So would love to have a simple interface bringing them together. So I can join the party.
