Netflix: List of Movies and TV Shows Leaving the Streaming Service in May

As the weather heats up in summer, so come baseball games, pool or beach days, an extended school break, Fourth of July fireworks, and backyard barbecues. But no matter how many trips and activities you try to pack into the longer days of the season, you’ll have to take some time to go inside to cool down. That’s where the movies that are leaving Netflix in July come in: With just a little bit more time left to watch these titles, it’s important to squeeze them in when you’re soaking up some AC. Netflix is, unfortunately, saying goodbye to plenty of beloved films and shows in May 2024. At the top of this list are some critically acclaimed A24 movies, starting with the anxiety-inducing crime thriller Uncut Gems which is leaving Netflix on May 8, 2024. Written and directed by the Safdie Brothers, Uncut Gems is a modern classic that is widely considered to feature one of the best leading performances of Adam Sandler’s storied career. Speaking of Sandler, his iconic comedy Happy Gilmore is leaving the Netflix streaming service at the very end of the month as well. Going back to A24, Netflix subscribers are also going to have to say goodbye to The Disaster Artist and Lee Isaac Chung’s semi-autobiographical film Minari in May 2024. Minari made Oscar history in 2021 when Yuh-jung Youn won Best Supporting Actress, making her the first Korean actress to ever win an Academy Award. Yuh-jung Youn is joined by Steven Yeun (Beef), Ye-ri Han (Worst Woman), Alan Kim (IF), and newcomer Noel Kate Cho in the cast, leveling up the sheer acting talent on display. Writer-director Lee Isaac Chung’s next movie is the highly-anticipated legacy sequel Twisters, which is hitting theaters this summer. Jumping into animation, Netflix is sadly removing two vibrant animated films this month: Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and The Boxtrolls. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish exceeded all expectations by revamping the Shrek franchise with a brand new painterly animation style that combines 2D and 3D elements in a way that’s strikingly different from other recent favorites like the Spider-Verse films. At the same time, the sequel features the mature storytelling and dark humor that first put DreamWorks Animation on the map. This and Laika‘s The Boxtrolls, which is one of the studio’s more underrated stop-motion fantasy comedies, deserve to be streamed one more time before they leave Netflix in May 2024. To wrap things up, the four original Hunger Games films are also leaving the Netflix streaming platform at the end of May 2024. Along with these titles, Netflix subscribers should queue up other notable, must-see films like Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby, James Wan’s Insidious, M. Night Shyamalan’s Split, J.A. Bayona’s The Impossible, and John Singleton’s Boyz n the Hood before they all expire from the streamer this month.
