15 injured Gazan children arrive in Spain with their families for care

A medical A400M aircraft, operated by the Medical Evacuation Unit of the Air and Space Army (UMAER), landed on Wednesday afternoon at Torrejón de Ardoz Air Base in Madrid. Onboard were 15 children from Gaza, accompanied by their family members. These children are either injured or suffering from severe health issues due to the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip and will receive medical treatment at various hospitals.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez shared this news through a post on social media platform X, stating, “A group of 15 sick children from Gaza has just arrived. We are fulfilling our commitment to the World Health Organization by providing them with safe treatment and what every child deserves, regardless of where they were born: a healthy childhood filled with hope. Welcome to Spain.”

The aircraft, operated by the 31st Wing in Zaragoza, departed on Tuesday afternoon with a team of 19 professionals, including doctors, nurses, and health technicians from UMAER. This mission marks the first medical evacuation of Gaza residents facilitated by a European government.

To ensure smooth transportation, 16 stretchers were set up on the aircraft, including one for critical care, to address any medical emergencies that might arise during the flight.

According to the plan, the children, who are accompanied by 27 direct family members, will be transferred to hospitals in regions such as the Basque Country, Asturias, Navarra, and Castilla-La Mancha. Additionally, they will also be taken to the Gómez Ulla Hospital in Madrid, which is managed by the Ministry of Defense, with all arrangements coordinated by the Ministry of Health.
