Latto and Coco Jones were among the artists who accepted their awards in person during the telecast. Latto won the award for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist, while Coco Jones was named Best New Artist. Teyana Taylor, who won Video Director of the Year, received the news via FaceTime from her mother, Nikki, who accepted the award on her behalf.
In the non-televised segment of the awards, there were notable ties in two major categories. Beyoncé’s “Renaissance” and SZA’s “SOS” both won Album of the Year, while Chris Brown and Usher shared the award for Best Male R&B/Pop Artist.
