4 Shows Arriving on Amazon Prime Video in July 2024

Coinciding with their annual Prime Day event from July 17 to July 18, Amazon is adding a slew of new movies and TV shows to the Prime Video streaming service throughout July 2024. After a successful June, bolstered by the debut of The Boys Season 4, Prime Video is not going to rest on its laurels. The streamer has three high-profile movie premieres and the debut of the highly anticipated TV show sequel to a hit animated film this month. On top of that, Prime Video is set to add an ambitious amount of popular films to both its streaming library and that of Freevee, Amazon’s free ad-supported streaming platform. Without further ado, let’s get into the nitty-gritty and see what Amazon Prime Video and Freevee are bringing in July 2024.

The first major Prime Video Original Film premiere in July 2024 is the Emma Roberts star vehicle Space Cadet. Hitting the streaming service on July 4, Space Cadet follows Tiffany “Rex” Simpson (Roberts), a burnout Florida party girl who scams the system to join the ultra-competitive NASA astronaut training program. The Amazon film co-stars Poppy Liu (Hacks) as Emma Roberts’ best friend and Gabrielle Union (The Inspection) and Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) as members of NASA. Colombian pop star Sebastián Yatra joins the cast in a supporting role as well. Emma Roberts’ latest romantic comedy seems like it will be perfect for Prime Video subscribers to unwind and watch on the Fourth of July holiday, a release date that will absolutely boost its visibility.

The second new Amazon movie coming to the streaming giant is My Spy: The Eternal City, releasing on July 18, 2024. The first My Spy did surprisingly well on Prime Video during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, so it seems Amazon is betting on the sequel making lightning strike twice. Dave Bautista returns as veteran CIA agent JJ on a new mission to stop a catastrophic nuclear terrorist scheme aimed at the Vatican. To make matters worse, this happens while he’s supposed to be chaperoning the high school choir Italy trip of his protégé stepdaughter Sophie (once again played by Chloe Coleman). My Spy: The Eternal City aims itself directly at the young children and family demographic, while returning comedians Ken Jeong and Kristen Schaal are likely to get some laughs from the adults watching. Expect wacky antics and plenty of heart.

The third new Prime Video Original Film to stream in July 2024 is Tyler Perry’s Divorce in the Black. Part of a four-picture deal between Tyler Perry and Prime Video, the streaming film treads familiar territory for Perry. Meagan Good stars as a banker who is abandoned by her husband (Cory Hardrict). Her initial intentions to try and save the marriage are thwarted when she discovers dark secrets her ex-partner has kept from her. Divorce in the Black feels primed to be a successful enterprise from writer/director/producer Perry, whose much-talked-about methods of handling all aspects of his melodramatic productions at Tyler Perry Studios yield numerous smash hits in film and television. There’s no reason to expect that this streaming movie won’t do the same when it lands on Prime Video on July 11, 2025.

The next high-profile premiere of July 2024 is the Prime Video Original Series Sausage Party: Foodtopia. The streaming show is the long-belated follow-up to the 2016 animated sleeper hit, Sausage Party. That film’s creators — Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Conrad Vernon — return for this Amazon series with a voice cast that’s led by Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Michael Cera, David Krumholtz, and Edward Norton. Also, Will Forte and Sam Richardson are among the new additions to the voice cast. The streaming series is set to follow the movie’s anthropomorphic food gang as they are forced to work together with humans. Whether this Amazon show can have the same shock value as the original Sausage Party remains to be seen, but when it drops on July 11, 2024 there are sure to be more than a few curious viewers who click on it.

When it comes to fan-favorite movies, Prime Video is not messing around in July 2024. Recently released movies like the biopic Bob Marley: One Love, the Jason Statham actioner The Beekeeper, and the Diablo Cody-written goth romantic comedy Lisa Frankenstein are getting added to Prime Video in July 2014. One of 2023’s biggest horror films, Evil Dead Rise directed by Lee Cronin, and the latest Mission: Impossible film, Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning, are also coming to Prime Video this month. Since Mission: Impossible 8 and a new Evil Dead movie are both on the horizon, Prime Video subscribers would be wise to rewatch the latter two films as they are now easily available to stream. Fans of the Rocky franchise will be delighted to see that the first 5 movies just got added to the streamer as well.

To cap off the list of notable Prime Video arrivals in July 2024, every subscriber should give a shot to classic films like Clint Eastwood’s Dollars Trilogy (comprised of A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good, The Bad And The Ugly) and Ridley Scott’s Gladiator, especially since his much-anticipated sequel Gladiator 2 is releasing in theaters later this year. The list of titles coming to Prime Video is too numerous to even begin to touch, so much so that it’s an easy recommend for people to subscribe to the service simply for all the classic July 2024 offerings.
