Mark Zuckerberg and his family chose to spend Father’s Day in a serene and luxurious manner. Accompanied by his wife, Priscilla Chan, and their children, Aurelia, August, and Maxima, the family was seen arriving in Mallorca, Spain. They spent the day aboard their opulent super yacht, Launchpad.
Photographers captured the moment the family arrived in Mallorca. Zuckerberg was seen following his security guard, who was carrying the family’s luggage. He sported a dark sweater with various patterns, pants, and a light blue t-shirt. Priscilla Chan was in the background with their daughters, all dressed in pajamas.
Additional photos showed the family on their yacht, Launchpad, which was recently purchased. The vessel measures 287 feet and is valued at $300 million, according to Fox Business. The family was joined by their extended family, including Zuckerberg’s father, Ed, who was celebrating his 70th birthday.
Zuckerberg shared a heartfelt message on social media, featuring images of all the guests wearing matching t-shirts. “Happy Father’s Day to the man who started and continues to inspire our whole family. We’re also celebrating his 70th birthday, and it was truly remarkable to hear the grandkids (at least the ones old enough) take turns telling papa all the ways he is meaningful in their lives last night at dinner. Here’s to many more.”
The yacht, Launchpad, was mainly off Andratx and naturally attracted a lot of attention. On Instagram, Zuckerberg wished his father Edward a very happy birthday. They all had dinner together on Saturday night, and Zuckerberg looked forward to many more birthday celebrations for the man “who continues to inspire the entire family.”
Zuckerberg and Chan began dating in 2003 after meeting at Harvard University. They married in 2012 and had their children later, with Maxima born in 2015, Augusta in 2017, and Aurelia in 2022. In an interview with CBS This Morning, Zuckerberg and Chan discussed their parenting style. “Well, I think, first of all, we don’t give them everything,” said Zuckerberg. “That’s an important piece, but they also have responsibilities.”
Chan added, “They have chores, they have responsibilities. We also take them to work. Mark and I take both of them to the office to see what we do, how we contribute.”
Mark Zuckerberg, who arrived in Mallorca on Friday night, spent Sunday with his family to celebrate his father’s 70th birthday. His wife Priscilla and their children were on his yacht Launchpad for a party that brought together several family members.
The yacht, which turned up last week off the coast of the Spanish island Mallorca, is worth an estimated $300 million (£237 million) and was described as a recent “40th birthday present” to himself. Zuckerberg’s siblings were seen in newly-shared photos wearing t-shirts bearing the words “Ed’s kids,” while his father’s read, “I’m Ed.”
Zuckerberg posted smiling pictures on Instagram, saying, “Happy Father’s Day to the man who started and continues to inspire our whole family. We’re also celebrating his 70th birthday, and it was really something to hear the grandkids (at least the ones old enough) take turns telling papa all the ways he is meaningful in their lives last night at dinner. Here’s to many more.”
Zuckerberg’s new 118m-long yacht is thought to have not only its own aircraft hangar but also a support boat, called the Wingman, costing an estimated $30 million (£24 million). The main vessel, constructed at the Feadship shipyard in the Netherlands, can accommodate 26 guests as well as 50 crew members. Its features also include a beach club area, a beauty center, a cinema-theater, and a helicopter.
Zuckerberg’s wealth amounts to $187 billion (£148 billion), according to Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index. He last month marked turning 40 by sharing rare photos of his family and friends on Instagram, as he told how his wife Priscilla Chan “recreated a bunch of places I lived in the early days.” One of the pictures showed him sitting next to Bill Gates in a miniature version of the Harvard dorm where the Meta billionaire created Facebook.
Another image featured Zuckerberg with his daughters Maxima, 8, and six-year-old August, as he showed them around a recreation of his childhood bedroom where he learned to code. He captioned an Instagram carousel of his newly-uploaded photos with the words, “Grateful for my first 40 years!” He also wrote, “Grateful that people traveled from all around the world to celebrate with me.”
His company Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, has seen its share price rise more than 50 percent this year, adding $58.8 billion (£46.5 billion) to the owner’s fortune. That meant he overtook Elon Musk, owner of Tesla and X, formerly Twitter, who was pushed to fourth place in the world’s richest people rankings.
A feud between the rival billionaires ramped up last year when Musk tweeted that Instagram makes people depressed. He later said Meta-owned WhatsApp “cannot be trusted” and challenged Zuckerberg to a cage fight, though plans fell through when Musk complained of an injury. Zuckerberg responded by blasting that “Elon isn’t serious” about any fight. The pair also traded barbs when Meta launched Threads in an attempt to rival X.
Father-of-three Zuckerberg has been married to Priscilla Chan since 2012, the pair having met at Harvard University nine years earlier. In February this year, he posted videos of himself on Instagram creating a Kitana sword with the help of Japanese sword master Akihira Kokaji. Zuckerberg had been in Japan to celebrate his wife’s 39th birthday and also meet the Japanese prime minister Fumio Kishida to discuss artificial intelligence.
As well as sword making, Zuckerberg’s hobbies include caring for a herd of cows which drink beer and eat macadamia nuts on his $100 million luxury estate in Hawaii. His other assets include a Gulfstream G650 private jet, while his firm Meta Platforms spent $1.6 million (£1.3 million) on air travel in 2021 and another $6.6 million (£5.2 million) the following year.
