After weeks of anticipation, LISA from BLACKPINK has officially announced the release date for her new solo single, “Rockstar.” The Thai rapper and singer took to her Instagram Story on Tuesday, June 18, to share the exciting news. The sleek graphic she posted confirmed that “Rockstar” will drop at 8 p.m. ET on June 27.
LISA first hinted at the new single at the beginning of June, launching her TikTok account with a post that featured a snippet of the edgy track. The post quickly went viral, helping her set a Guinness World Record by gaining a million followers in just two hours and 18 minutes. A second TikTok video followed, teasing the song’s title with LISA saying, “Baby, I’m a rock star,” in the background.
This release marks LISA’s first solo project since signing with RCA Records. The deal, made in partnership with her own company LLOUD, allows her to retain ownership of her master recordings. Previously, she released the singles “Lalisa” and “Money” under YG Entertainment and Interscope Records. “Money” notably became the first solo K-pop hit to surpass a billion streams on Spotify in 2023.
In a statement from April, LISA expressed her excitement about joining the RCA family. “I’m super excited to be joining the RCA family, and I am confident they are the best team to create a bigger movement in my solo career,” she said. “Looking forward to showing the world everything we have been preparing.”
The announcement of “Rockstar” has been met with immense excitement from fans worldwide. LISA’s management company, LLOUD, also shared the news on Instagram, posting a cartoonish, electric sound graphic that seemed to tease the new track. Her TikTok account has continued to grow, amassing 9.5 million followers and nearly 20 million likes across her first two posts.
“Rockstar” will be LISA’s first solo release since her collaboration with DJ Snake, Ozuna, and Megan Thee Stallion on “SG” in 2021. That same year, she released “Lalisa” and “Money,” performing her solo tracks while BLACKPINK headlined Coachella last year.
Earlier this year, BLACKPINK members decided not to re-sign individually with YG Entertainment, giving them more control over their solo careers. This move has allowed LISA to explore new opportunities, including her upcoming role in Season Three of HBO’s “The White Lotus.”
LISA’s solo career has been marked by significant achievements. Her debut single album “Lalisa” achieved the highest first-week sales for any female act in South Korea, with 736,221 copies sold. The singles “Lalisa” and “Money” both entered the US Billboard Hot 100 and the top ten of the Billboard Global 200. “Money” also broke the Guinness World Record for the first K-pop track by a soloist to reach one billion streams on Spotify.
In December 2023, YG Entertainment confirmed that LISA did not renew her contract with the label for individual activities. She announced the establishment of her own artist management company, LLOUD, in February 2024. Under a partnership with LLOUD, she signed with RCA Records in April to release solo music.
On June 6, 2024, LISA first teased new solo music by posting a minimalistic graphic on Instagram Stories reading “Coming soon: LISA” with pre-save links for Spotify and Apple Music. Her official website and LLOUD management page also displayed the teaser. She opened a new TikTok account and posted a video of herself dancing to a gritty synth beat titled “Coming Soon,” setting a Guinness World Record by gaining a million followers in just two hours and 18 minutes.
A week later, she posted a second TikTok video of herself posing for photos on the beach while an instrumental track titled “Teaser” played over it. The track featured racing percussion with edgy, slightly distorted synths, and at the end, she faintly sang, “Baby, I’m a rock star.” On June 18, she officially confirmed the song’s title “Rockstar” and its release date of June 27 at 8 p.m. ET with a graphic posted to her Instagram Story.
Fans are eagerly awaiting the release of “Rockstar,” which promises to be another milestone in LISA’s already illustrious career. With the backing of RCA Records and her own company LLOUD, LISA is set to make a significant impact on the global music scene once again.
