NewJeans member Hyein, who has been on a break due to a foot injury, is set to join the group’s fan meeting in Tokyo, though her stage involvement will be limited.
On the 20th, ADOR, NewJeans’ agency, shared on Weverse, “Hyein has been undergoing treatment and recovery since a minor fracture was found in her foot last April. Recent check-ups indicate that the fracture is healing, and she has been advised to gradually increase her physical activity over the next month.”
The agency added, “Following medical advice and discussions with Hyein, she will participate in the ‘Bunnies Camp 2024 Tokyo Dome’ event on the 26th and 27th.”
However, they emphasized, “To ensure proper rehabilitation, we are adjusting her participation to avoid straining the injured area. We ask for your understanding as she may take part in some performances with limitations.”
Due to her condition, Hyein will not be able to join official activities for their Japanese single ‘Supernatural,’ including music shows and performances. The agency mentioned, “Depending on her condition and medical advice, she will try to engage in non-performance schedules as much as possible. We are also working to ensure the group can perform as five members in future domestic music broadcasts.”
The agency concluded, “Hyein will return to official activities once she is fully recovered, based on medical approval. We appreciate your support and understanding.”
Hyein experienced pain in her foot during practice in April, leading to a hospital visit where a minor fracture was diagnosed. As a result, she did not participate in NewJeans’ promotional activities for their double single ‘How Sweet’ in May.
Meanwhile, NewJeans will release their Japanese debut single ‘Supernatural’ on the 21st and continue their active schedule in Japan. The group will also hold a fan meeting at Tokyo Dome on the 26th and 27th.
NewJeans will double-up this summer with a pair of single album releases as the follow-up to their Jan. 2023 single album OMG. The single albums, akin to EPs, will drop on May 24 and June 21, with the first, How Sweet, featuring the title track, as well as “Bubble Gum” and instrumental versions of both songs.
The second, the Japanese single album Supernatural, will mark the band’s official debut in Japan and feature the title track along with “Right Now” and two instrumental tracks. “Bubble Gum” will debut in Japan ahead of the mini-album’s release when it is featured in a commercial and in a TV program next month. Similarly, “Right Now” will be pre-released as a commercial song in Japan and South Korea in May according to a press release announcing the projects.
To celebrate their Japanese debut, the group comprised of members MINJI, HANNI, DANIELLE, HAERIN and HYEIN will host a two-day fanmeet concert, on June 26-27.
Earlier this month NewJeans received the Group of the Year Award at the 2024 Billboard Women in Music event celebrating their impressive chart feats in 2023. Last year the group scored entries on 10 Billboard charts, including the Billboard Hot 100, Billboard 200 and Billboard Global 200. Most impressively, they scored five entries on the Billboard Hot 100, led by “Super Shy” (No. 48), along with other entries including “OMG” (No. 74), “ETA” (No. 81), “Ditto” (No. 82) and “Cool With You” (No. 93).
NewJeans member Hyein will be resuming her activities partially after recovering from a foot fracture, ADOR confirmed on June 20 KST.
The label announced on this day, “Hello, this is ADOR. We would like to update you on Hyein’s health condition and her participation in upcoming schedules. After suffering a microfracture on the top of her foot in April, Hyein has been focusing on treatment and recovery. A recent examination has confirmed that the fracture is healing well, and it has been recommended that Hyein gradually increase her foot movements over the next month. Based on the above advice by medical experts and after a thorough discussion with the other members, it has been decided that Hyein will participate in ‘Bunnies Camp 2024 Tokyo Dome’ on June 26 and 27. However, as Hyein requires a sufficient rehabilitation period, ADOR is currently adjusting Hyein’s level of participation as to avoid any strains to her injury during her interactions with fans. Consequently, she will take part in the performances to a limited extent. We ask for your understanding on this matter. For the above reasons, we also ask for your understanding as Hyein will not participate in official ‘Supernatural’ promotions in Japan, including music shows and other performances. Depending on Hyein’s condition and the advice of medical experts, she plans to engage as much as possible in activities other than music shows and performances. We are committed to ensuring that NewJeans can perform as a full group once again once they return to music show promotions in Korea. We express our sincerest gratitude to the fans for your concerns about Hyein, and we ask for your continued support so that Hyein can return to official activities once she receives medical clearance.”
Meanwhile, NewJeans will release their Japanese debut single ‘Supernatural’ on June 21 at 12 AM EST / 1 PM JST.
