President Biden and former President Donald Trump faced off in a highly anticipated debate for the 2024 election, and the contrast between the two candidates was stark, according to body language expert Susan Constantine. Speaking to Fox News, Constantine highlighted the physical differences between Biden and Trump from the moment they took the stage, setting the tone for the rest of the evening. Trump exuded strength and confidence through his mannerisms, while Biden appeared tired and slow, exacerbated by his raspy voice, mumbled answers, and often dazed looks.
Constantine expressed concern from the outset, noting Biden’s pale and pasty appearance, describing him as looking “like a dead man walking.” She observed that Biden’s movements were slow and his gestures minimal, making him appear almost statue-like on stage. In contrast, Trump maintained a serious demeanor throughout the debate, refraining from his usual facial gestures and big smiles, which Constantine said made him appear exceptionally powerful compared to Biden.
Biden’s campaign attributed his raspy voice to a cold, but his uneven performance dominated headlines, prompting some political pundits and Democrats to call for him to reconsider his candidacy. However, Biden’s allies defended him and criticized Trump for lying during the debate.
Constantine noted that Biden seemed to have rehearsed his answers, delivering them quickly to avoid forgetting his lines. When he did falter, it resulted in long, unblinking stares, which she described as a “stalker stare.” She also pointed out that Biden’s use of cosmetic injections hindered his ability to make proper facial expressions, which she believes could affect cognitive function.
Trump, on the other hand, commanded the stage with disciplined hand movements and facial expressions that conveyed his emotions. Constantine highlighted Trump’s use of gestures, such as a chopping motion when serious and an “okay” sign when emphasizing important points. His large, open gestures captured attention and were in sync with his personality, making his communication appear authentic and powerful.
The lack of an audience played to Trump’s advantage, keeping him focused on the debate. Constantine emphasized that Trump’s gestures were rapid, commanding, and intense, aligning with his personality and effectively conveying his points.
