After two years of dating, Josh Lucas and meteorologist Brianna Ruffalo have announced their engagement.
The Yellowstone and Palm Royale actor, 53, shared the happy news in an emotional Instagram post alongside footage from the festive meal during which he popped the question. The videos feature Ruffalo tearfully smiling in Lucas’ direction as table-side musicians perform an acoustic version of Elvis’ “I Can’t Help Falling in Love” for the couple.
“For the last two years in every way and every day this beautiful soul has made me and my life better, deeper, and more whole,” Lucas wrote in his Saturday post. “I am so grateful and thrilled she said ‘yes.'”
He continued, “I WAY love you, Brianna. & Thank you to our families and all the people and places that made this come true. I am absolutely aware I got crazy lucky.”
The ABC7 meteorologist showed off her glittering new engagement ring in her own post, sharing additional footage of the couple’s dinner together.
“Almost two years ago this fall, and with no expectations, Josh walked into my life,” she wrote. “And we knew almost immediately we had each found our person in a way we’ve never experienced — on every level.”
Addressing the engagement news, she added, “This was the easiest and best question I’ve ever answered. So, here’s to forever with my love, my best friend. I can’t wait to keep living this life with you.”
Lucas and Ruffalo took their relationship public after one year together and have since been spotted at various premieres and Hollywood events, with them also showing off their adventures on one another’s social media. Earlier this year, at the March premiere of Lucas’ Apple TV+ series Palm Royale, Ruffalo joked that despite their romance, she didn’t side with Lucas when it came to his character in the Reese Witherspoon rom-com, Sweet Home Alabama.
“I’m Team Patrick Dempsey,” she told E! News.
Lucas added that Ruffalo has never wavered on that particular stance. “From day one, she was like, ‘Oh yeah, you were the other guy.’ She was like, ‘I didn’t like you because you, like, stole [Reese’s character] from Patrick.'”
More recently, Ruffalo shared photos of the couple traveling through Italy.
“Back to the motherland,” she wrote. “Favorite place with my favorite guy.”
Lucas has a 12-year-old son, Noah, from his previous marriage to writer Jessica Ciencin Henriquez. The couple divorced in 2014, two years after they wed.
Josh Lucas is now an engaged man! On June 29, the 53-year-old actor announced on Instagram that he proposed to his girlfriend of nearly two years, Brianna Ruffalo. He shared the news by uploading a sweet video of a band serenading the Los Angeles meteorologist as she wipes away tears from her eyes. The “Sweet Home Alabama” star also shared a selfie of the two embracing and another clip that appeared to be recorded soon after he asked her to marry him. In the second clip, Ruffalo’s engagement ring sparkles as she holds her hands close to her face, laughs and listens to the music.
“For the last 2 years in Every Way and Every Day this beautiful soul has made me and my life better, deeper, and more whole,” Lucas gushed in the caption. “I am so grateful and thrilled she said ‘Yes’. I WAY love you Brianna.”
He thanked their families and everyone who helped him pull off the proposal. “I am absolutely aware I got crazy lucky,” he added.
Celebrity friends celebrated the engagement news in the comments. Lucas’ “Palm Royale” co-star Ricky Martin wrote, “Congratulations to you both” with a party popper, sparkles and a champagne bottle emoji. Kaia Gerber cheered, “So happy for you two!!!!!!” “Fallout” actor Walton Goggins commented, “Oh Josh…. Congratulations my brother!!!! So very happy for you!!!” and added four sparkles emoji.
Ruffalo also celebrated their engagement on her Instagram, writing, “Almost 2 years ago this fall, and with no expectations, Josh walked into my life.. and we knew almost immediately we had each found our person in a way we’ve never experienced- on every level. This was the easiest and best question I’ve ever answered,” she added.
Over the last two years, Lucas and Ruffalo have made public appearances together at some Hollywood events. In March, they attended the red carpet premiere for his Apple TV+ series “Palm Royale.” While walking the carpet together, they stopped for an interview with “E! News,” and Ruffalo shared a funny story about one of the actor’s most beloved movies —“Sweet Home Alabama.”
The meteorologist revealed that she wasn’t rooting for her now fiancé’s character to win over Melanie, played by Reese Witherspoon, in the rom-com. Ruffalo told the outlet, “I’m Team Patrick Dempsey.”
In the film, Melanie is in a love triangle with her current fiancé Andrew, who Dempsey portrays, and her estranged husband Jake, played by Lucas.
“From day one, she was like, ‘Oh yeah, you were the other guy,’” Lucas said during the red carpet interview. “She was like, ‘I always felt bad… I didn’t like you because you like, stole her from Patrick.’”
Ruffalo jokingly said that her support of Team Patrick was an “ongoing problem” in her relationship with Lucas. He chimed in and said, “We actually watched part of it once and she fell asleep, like, 10 minutes in and was still like, ‘I’m still Team Patrick.’ And that was it.”
Lucas was previously married to Jessica Clencin Henriquez from 2012 to 2014. The now-exes share son Noah, 12.
“I try to play with my son as much as I can,” Lucas told Slant Magazine in 2015. “It’s my favorite thing in the world to play with my son.”
Lucas also brought Noah to New York City with him when he starred on Broadway in 2013’s The Parisian Woman opposite Uma Thurman.
“As you know, when you do a play on Broadway you kind of end up living in the theater,” the Sweet Home Alabama star later said during a November 2019 appearance on The Late Late Show With James Corden. “[You] think, ‘Oh great, I’ll have all this time with my kid.’ The reality is you don’t at all end up having time, so you end up kind of moving into the theater. Backstage, [Noah and Uma’s daughter Luna] had their little playroom, and one day we opened the playroom and they both, like, popped up from behind the couch … and were both obviously so nervous.”
According to Lucas, Noah then proclaimed that he had his first kiss with Luna, whom 54-year-old Thurman shares with ex Arpad Busson. Lucas and Henriquez, meanwhile, continue to coparent their son.
