Billy Ray Cyrus and Firerose are embroiled in a contentious divorce, with both parties accusing each other of various forms of abuse during their brief seven-month marriage. The couple, who began dating in 2022 after years of friendship, tied the knot in October 2023. However, their relationship quickly deteriorated, leading to a series of explosive allegations from both sides.
Cyrus, 62, filed for divorce on May 22, citing “irreconcilable differences” and “inappropriate marital conduct.” In his filing, he accused Firerose, whose real name is Johanna Rose Hodges, of making nearly $100,000 in unauthorized credit card charges. He also sought a temporary restraining order to prevent her from accessing his finances. Firerose’s attorneys have denied these accusations, calling them “untrue.”
In response, Firerose, 36, filed her own court documents on June 14, accusing Cyrus of “extreme verbal, emotional, and psychological abuse.” She claimed that his behavior was influenced by substance abuse, including persistent drug use and marijuana consumption, which made him “unpredictable and volatile.” Firerose also alleged that Cyrus filed for divorce just one day before she was scheduled to undergo a preventive double mastectomy, a surgery she had been advised to have due to her BRCA1 gene mutation.
Cyrus vehemently denied Firerose’s allegations in a subsequent filing on June 24. He claimed that Firerose had scheduled the surgery as part of a threat to ruin his career if he chose to divorce her. According to Cyrus, Firerose allegedly said, “If you even think about divorcing me right now, I will tell everyone that you did it because of the double mastectomy, and your career will be over.” He also accused her of physical abuse, stating that he had been abused “not only verbally and emotionally by the defendant, but PHYSICALLY.”
A spokesperson for Firerose dismissed Cyrus’s latest claims as “false” and described them as another tactic of “cruel manipulation.” The spokesperson added that the filing was an attempt to distract from the “serious, true allegations” against Cyrus, which are backed by “an abundance of evidence.”
Firerose’s court documents further detailed the alleged abuse, stating that she “walked on eggshells” in their marital home as her surgery date approached. She claimed that she was afraid to leave or seek help because she feared Cyrus would interfere with her surgery or her recovery. Firerose also accused Cyrus of calling her derogatory names and alleging that she was using him.
In a statement to Page Six, Cyrus’s representative refuted Firerose’s claims and accused her of still being in love with him. The statement mentioned that Firerose had begged Cyrus to forgive her and take her back just two days after he filed for divorce. Cyrus also discovered a handwritten note from Firerose professing her love and need to be with him.
Cyrus’s divorce filing also included a request for an annulment on the grounds of fraud. He accused Firerose of inappropriate marital conduct and claimed that she married him for financial reasons rather than love. An insider told PEOPLE that Cyrus believed Firerose married him so he could take care of her financially, leading to drama and trust issues about money.
Firerose, on the other hand, accused Cyrus of sabotaging her career in retaliation. She claimed that Cyrus influenced their shared manager and booking agent to terminate their services with her, causing her to lose out on $415,000. Firerose is now requesting alimony from Cyrus, citing the accumulation of years of verbal, emotional, and psychological abuse, as well as his interference with her income and future opportunities.
The couple’s divorce proceedings have been marked by a series of legal maneuvers and public statements, each more contentious than the last. As the case continues to unfold, both parties remain steadfast in their respective accusations, making it clear that this divorce will be anything but amicable.
