Eddie Murphy recently shared a humorous take on his son Eric Murphy’s relationship with Martin Lawrence’s daughter, Jasmin Lawrence. In an interview with Gayle King on CBS Mornings, Eddie, 63, expressed his delight over the couple’s relationship and joked about the potential for a “funny” grandchild.
“We thought it was cool,” Eddie said about Eric and Jasmin’s relationship. “They’re both beautiful. They look amazing together. And it’s funny [because] everybody [asks], ‘What, is that baby going to be funny?’” He added, “Just our gene pool is going to make this funny baby. If they ever get married and have a child, I’m expecting the child to be funny.”
Eric, 34, and Jasmin, 28, made their relationship public on Instagram in June 2021. Eric shared a heartfelt post with a photo of the couple, captioning it, “Head over heels in LOVE with YOU,” along with hashtags like “My other half,” “Equally yoked,” and “I love you.”
Jasmin, in a 2022 interview with In Touch, revealed that their fathers were not the ones who introduced them. “My uncle actually introduced us, it wasn’t even our dads,” she said. “And they’ve done two movies together. They’re friends. It’s crazy. We met through my uncle and became really good friends. We bonded [over] a lot of things. Obviously, we have similar backgrounds so we understood each other on a certain level, and over time it just became more.”
Jasmin is the eldest of Martin Lawrence’s three children. Martin, known for his roles in the “Bad Boys” franchise, also has two other daughters, Iyanna, 23, and Amara, 21. On the other hand, Eric is the eldest of Eddie Murphy’s ten children. Eddie shares Eric with his ex-girlfriend Paulette McNeely. His other children include daughters Bria, 34, Shayne, 29, Zola, 24, and Bella, 22, and sons Christian, 33, and Myles, 31, all of whom he shares with ex-wife Nicole Mitchell. Additionally, Eddie has a daughter, Angel, 17, with Spice Girls member Mel B, and two younger children, daughter Izzy, 8, and son Max, 5, with his fiancée Paige Butcher.
In his interview with King, Eddie also reflected on his parenting style, noting how it has evolved over the years. “I’ve always been the same type of dad – laidback,” he said. “I’m not [a] super hard disciplinary. I’m, like, a cool dad. But I don’t let them get away with all kinds of stuff. I’ve always been there for everything: school plays and all that stuff. My two little ones, they get to go wild and [get] loud. My other kids didn’t have [that].”
Eddie’s lighthearted comments about the potential for a “funny” grandchild highlight the close bond between the Murphy and Lawrence families. Both Eddie and Martin have enjoyed successful careers in comedy and film, and their children’s relationship seems to be a natural extension of their long-standing friendship.
The idea of a “funny baby” is not far-fetched, considering the comedic talents of both families. Eddie Murphy is renowned for his roles in classics like “Coming to America,” “Beverly Hills Cop,” and “The Nutty Professor,” while Martin Lawrence has made his mark with films like “Bad Boys,” “Blue Streak,” and “Big Momma’s House.” The combination of their comedic genes could indeed result in a child with a natural knack for humor.
As Eric and Jasmin’s relationship continues to blossom, fans of both families are undoubtedly curious to see what the future holds. Whether or not they decide to have children, the support and love from their famous parents are evident.
Eddie Murphy’s playful remarks about a “funny baby” serve as a reminder of the joy and laughter that both he and Martin Lawrence have brought to audiences over the years. Their children’s relationship is a testament to the strong connections and shared experiences that have shaped their lives.
In the end, whether or not Eric and Jasmin’s future child inherits their parents’ comedic talents, one thing is certain: the Murphy and Lawrence families will continue to bring smiles and laughter to those around them.
