Booboo Stewart, known for his roles in “Good Trouble,” “Twilight,” and Disney’s “Descendants,” recently made headlines for a significant change in his appearance. The actor, who has been recognized for his long hair for years, decided to shave it off after his TV show ended. Stewart, 30, opened up about his decision on the latest episode of the “Ned’s Declassified Podcast Survival Guide.”
Stewart shared that he had long hair for most of his life, even as a child. His dad used to cut his and his sisters’ bangs, but the rest of his hair remained long. Over time, his long hair became a significant part of his identity in the eyes of others. “When they thought of me, they’re like, ‘Oh, the hair.’ You know? Like, ‘He has long hair. He’s got long hair,’” Stewart explained. He felt it was time for a change and wanted to “switch it up.”
The decision to shave his head came after he finished filming “Good Trouble,” a Freeform show that ended in March. With no more obligations tying him to his long hair, Stewart felt it was the perfect time to make the change. “I just was not feeling like that anymore. And I had finished the TV show I was on, [and] I was like, ‘OK. No more obligations.’ And, I shaved it,” he said.
Stewart has cut his hair short several times throughout his life. He recalled cutting it short when he was young because people at school were calling him a girl. He also had to cut it for the “Twilight” movies, but it always grew back long. This time, however, he is happy with the result. “It feels so good,” he said. “Yeah, I love it.”
When podcast host Daniel Curtis Lee asked if Stewart kept his hair after cutting it, Stewart admitted that he did. “I still have it,” he said. He jokingly added that he prays to it but clarified that he keeps the locks in a drawer in his bathroom.
Stewart initially debuted his new look on Instagram, where he posted a photo of himself with his arms crossed in front of a window, the light illuminating the side of his head. The post received mixed reactions from fans. Some expressed their admiration for the new look, while others were in denial. One user commented, “The way my mouth opened … I remain in denial even though it suits him very well.” Another added, “That was a plot twist and a half, looks insanely cool tho.”
Despite the mixed reactions, Stewart seems content with his decision. He emphasized that the change was something he needed for himself, not for anyone else. “I just wanted to switch it up,” he reiterated. “I just was not feeling like that anymore.”
Stewart’s decision to shave his head is a reminder that sometimes, a change in appearance can be a powerful way to redefine oneself. For Stewart, it was about shedding an identity that others had imposed on him and embracing a new look that felt more authentic to who he is now.
