Winter Fashion 2015
I always thought my favorite season was summer, but over the past few years, I’ve really embraced the winter vibe, especially when it comes to Winter Fashion! While I still don’t enjoy running around in the rain, Winter Fashion almost makes it bearable.
A recent trip to the UK had me scrambling to find a few winter essentials before I set off. Even though it was March in London, the weather was still quite cold! Cold enough for thicker jackets and boots. I’ll do another post featuring a few of my Winter Fashion Finds. For now, I thought I’d share my Winter Fashion Inspiration, as you can definitely feel the chill in the air in Cape Town with winter fast approaching!
My ultimate style crush is Jessica Alba. I really love her casual yet chic, “I woke up like this” approach to fashion. She never looks over-styled, just well put together, projecting effortless style.
She also happens to be the queen of “the hat” – she loves hats and somehow always manages to pull off the look, no matter the outfit or season!
Winter fashion is all about layering! Starting with your basic long T-shirts or thin knits and building on that to create an overall well-put-together look, which is both warm and stylish.
Last but certainly not least, it’s all about the boot! Whether they are long, short, slouch, or classic – you need to have a selection of boots in your shoe wardrobe! My favorite at the moment are slouch boots, but lace-up ones, similar to the pair Jessica is wearing in the image below, are also fantastic.
I hope you find some inspiration from this post for your winter wardrobe. Please check back for more fashion and style inspiration soon! What do you think about these trends – yay or nay? Do you have any winter fashion favorites or items you are currently coveting? Please share your comments below!

My look of the week this week features my “style-crush” Jessica Alba! Who says you can’t be trendy when pushing a stroller! In this look, Jessica is rocking a magenta Trilby hat, an oversized knit, and a gorgeous bohemian print scarf, all of which are super trendy this season. Hats are a big fashion accessory, especially for winter. You can see more about this trend in my previous article on hat style trends.

The look of the week this week is Jessica Alba (yes, again!), looking amazingly chic in gorgeous neutral shades. The whole look is chic and sophisticated with an “Out-of-Africa,” safari feel about it. The calm shades of beige are complemented wonderfully by her stylish nude heels, and the Panama hat gives the look a quirky edge. She really makes style look effortless!

Look of the Week – Jessica Alba
I’m afraid it’s Jessica Alba again who takes “look of the week”! She just does simple, understated style so well! I love the sexy flared jeans, crisp white shirt, accentuated nicely by the dark coral jacket, and I’m loving the killer wedges!

Look of the Week ~ Jessica Alba
I absolutely love this look; it is definitely something I would wear, and Jessica Alba makes it look effortless! I love the tailored taupe jacket, simply worn with a pretty blouse and skinny jeans. She rocks those heels as well. I think overall the look is smart and sassy – she does casual with class!

The Busy Mom Wardrobe: Where Comfort & Style Meet
I’ve received quite a few emails from readers who want advice on how to get a practical yet stylish working mom wardrobe. I may not be a mom, but I’ve styled my fair share of them. Keep reading for my style tips and a list of stay-at-home mom essentials.
Swap Out Your Leggings
Leggings seem to be the go-to pant for busy moms, but not many of them seem to love them (this is based on the emails I’ve received and my clients’ feedback). The good news is there are other options! Drawstring or elastic silky pants (they don’t have to be actual silk) are great because they are comfortable and a stylish alternative to leggings. Speaking of leggings, jeggings are also a great option. Now I’m not talking about leggings with stitching painted on them! I’m talking about actual jeans that have a lot of stretch. J Brand and Current Elliot have some fabulous options.
Think Fabric When Searching for Stylish Tops
From working with my mommy clients, their number one request is comfort. Number two is that they want something nice but not too nice because it may get spit up on or spilled on. My advice to them is to think about the fabric first and then go for style. If you look for a shirt that can be easily cleaned, you have won half the battle. Once you know your cute top won’t be ruined for life, then focus on the style of the top. A great T-shirt is a no-brainer, but also consider a button-up shirt (depending on the child’s age – I hear the little ones love ripping off buttons), a long-sleeved tee, or even a cozy sweater.
Work with Layers
Now I know layers aren’t always the most practical when you are running around town with a child on your hip, but hear me out. For summer, try simple layers like a summer scarf or a super-chill vest. For winter, you actually need layers, so why not throw on a stylish leather jacket (they stretch and mold to your body for the most comfortable fit ever), a little pea-coat, or a knit jacket instead.
Throw on a Dress
Dresses may seem fussy and impractical, but they are actually SO easy and comfortable if you find the right one. Look for a jersey-knit material – something you can just throw on and go. For summer, I love moms in maxi dresses – so bohemian. Don’t think you need to wear heels either because flats and sandals look amazing with dresses.
The Finishing Touches
Accessorizing isn’t always a top priority, and depending on the age of your child, it can be an utter disaster, but don’t let this deter you. Trust me, I’ve had more than one baby rip a necklace right off my neck, and I don’t even want to think of what they could do to earrings – so I understand the fear. Just know there are other accessories out there to work with. I mentioned scarves already, but how about treating yourself to a stylish pair of sunglasses? Or why not wear a fun belt to punch things up? These finishing touches can take you from drab to fab (sorry, I had to go there; it was too easy).
A Word About Footwear
I can’t have a mom style post without talking about shoes. We can’t all be Victoria Beckham, so I am not even going to try to tell any of you to wear heels or wedges for that matter. There are some pretty rocking flats out there, and I encourage you to wear them. Who wants to chase a kid in heels? Ballet flats are the bomb, and if you have the budget for them, Lanvin makes the best. Sneakers also work; just make sure they aren’t the ones you wear to the gym. I am also a fan of stylish sandals, and flip-flops don’t count; leave those in the closet.
Mom Wardrobe Essentials
Jeggings or super-stretchy jeans
Silky pants
Great fitting tees in black, gray, and white (depending on the age of your child)
Sweaters and oversized cardigans
Ballet flats
Stylish sneakers
Comfy boots
Cross-body bag
Chic shades
Jersey dresses (maxi and knee length)
Not-too-heavy necklaces (again, depending on the age of your child)
Cool hat

How do celebrities make traveling look so flawless? Short of flying private jet, let alone first-class, us Nomads have to make do with looking good. Not that we’re complaining…I mean, any excuse to dress up, right? On the plus side, it’s a known fact that air crew look out for well-dressed people to upgrade on the off chance that they have space up front.
In any case, traveling long-haul (or short) isn’t very conducive to wearing your entire wardrobe (that’s what packing is for!), even if you think you might need that animal-print faux-fur jacket. Actually, you’ll probably never need to wear that at all, but here are our tips for rocking it out like a star while traveling.
Jessica Alba rocking a hat, tailored blazer, and oversized bag
#1 Hat
Doesn’t matter what hat you choose, but trilbies, felt fedoras, and beanies are the weapons of choice for stylish celebs. That way, you can hide ‘cabin hair’ AND still look like a million bucks.
Victoria Beckham does monochrome posh with shades and killer heels
#2 Sunglasses
This piece of ammunition also helps if you want to take away the ‘eyebag’ effect – simply because no one can see ’em. The bigger the sunnies are, the better, and they will also look good when wearing a hat.
Miranda Kerr smartens up her day dress with a sharp tux-style blazer
#3 Tailored blazer
Now, this is one piece you can’t leave home without. You might want to be comfy in your slubby tee and ripped jeans, but put on an impeccably sharp blazer, and you’re instantly stylish (and warm). Make sure it’s well-tailored for a polished finish.
Model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley carries her essentials in an oversized bag
#4 Oversized bag
Because you’ll have to stuff your neck pillow somewhere! Not to mention your MacBook Air, iPad, iPod, iPhone, book, socks, change of clothes, toiletries, and whatever else you might want on board. We recommend splurging on something nice and structured like a Celine trapeze bag (love…).
Taylor Swift does the classic separate look with a pop of candy red
#5 A dash of color
You might notice that all our celebs here wear neutral colors when they travel, but they are usually never without a pop of color. Express yourself in your oversized bag, funky sunglasses, a slim belt, or even your shoes. Remember, style is never about what you wear, but how you wear it.
