Kate Beckinsale has finally provided a hint about the reason behind her recent unexplained hospital stay. The “Serendipity” star, 50, took to Instagram to share several photos and videos of herself wearing a T-shirt that read, “Tummy Troubles Survivor.” The shirt also featured an adorable bunny dressed in armor, holding a sword and shield, signaling that she had been dealing with stomach issues.
In the Instagram post, Beckinsale appeared in bed, accessorized with light-wash jeans, a bedazzled belt, and a giant velvet black bow and matching headband. She posed with her Pomeranian, who humorously wore fake little human hands making peace signs on his paws. She also shared images cuddling with her cat, all while wearing the same giant bow in her hair.
Fans quickly flooded the comments section to express their relief and happiness at seeing her on the mend. “You definitely are a survivor as it says on the shirt, glad to see things looking up,” one person wrote. Another added, “I am glad to see a smile on that beautiful face.” A third commented, “So happy that you’re back, Kate.”
Beckinsale first revealed her hospitalization last month when she posted teary-eyed photos on Instagram while celebrating her mom, Judy Loe, on UK Mother’s Day. “Thank you to those that love us and support us when it’s s–t and try to make sure there are some bits that aren’t,” she wrote on March 11. She didn’t divulge the specifics of what had put her in the hospital at that time.
Throughout her hospital stay, Beckinsale kept her fans updated by sharing content on social media. She celebrated Easter from her hospital bed and posted photos of her dog visiting her in the hospital. She also shared snaps of herself wearing festive bunny socks during her bedridden Easter celebration. Earlier this month, she posted silly selfies with her close friend Jonathan Voluck as they hung out in her hospital bed.
However, Beckinsale left fans questioning her whereabouts when she deleted all her posts from her hospital stay from her Instagram last week. She made no other mention of her status until posting her latest fashion statement on Wednesday.
Beckinsale has been going through a tough period amid her health woes. Her stepfather, Roy Battersby, died from a “massive” stroke at the age of 86 in January. Last month, she paid tribute to her late stepdad with some new ink on her arm.
In a recent clapback at online body-shamers, Beckinsale shed more light on the health issues that landed her in the hospital earlier this year. She shared a video on Instagram in a revealing outfit, but when one user criticized her appearance, she was quick to defend herself. Beckinsale explained how the grief of her mother’s cancer diagnosis and her stepfather’s death caused her to lose weight.
“No, actually. I watched my stepfather die quite shockingly, my mother has stage 4 cancer, and I lost a lot of weight from stress and grief, quite quickly,” she said. The grief was so intense that it “burned a hole” in her esophagus, causing her to “vomit copious amounts of blood,” which led to her six-week hospitalization. “I found eating very hard and I just worked very hard on a movie that was actually quite triggering because it also involved the theme of death of my father so I’m not really concerned about what you think about my a–,” she added.
Beckinsale documented much of her hospital stay in now-deleted photos, though she never shared the reasons she needed medical treatment. She later shared a photo of herself wearing a shirt reading “Tummy Troubles Survivor,” leading many followers to believe her hospitalization had to do with stomach issues.
In her latest post, Beckinsale can be seen sitting on a bed sporting the T-shirt while hanging out with her Pomeranian pet dog named Myf, who is wearing tiny prosthetic human hands on its front paws. She didn’t elaborate further, simply opting for an arm muscles and white heart emoji in the accompanying caption.
Her 5.6 million followers were delighted to see her at home recovering after her ordeal as they offered their well wishes in the comments. “Welcome back home Kate, I’m glad you’re finally better and recovered,” penned one. “Glad to see things are looking up,” agreed another. “Welcome home! So happy you survived your ‘tummy troubles’!” remarked a third.
