Matthew Broderick earned some cool dad points by bringing his kids to the opening night of “Oh, Mary!” on Broadway. The “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” actor, 62, stepped out with son James, 21, and twin daughters Marion and Tabitha, 15, on Thursday night at the Lyceum Theatre in New York City. Broderick shares his three children with his longtime wife, “Sex and the City” star Sarah Jessica Parker, whom he wed in May 1997.
“Oh, Mary!” is a comedic spoof of the lives of former President Abraham Lincoln, played by Conrad Ricamora, and former first lady Mary Todd Lincoln, portrayed by Cole Escola, who also wrote the show. The play has been garnering rave reviews, including one from the NY Post, which wrote that Broadway “has not witnessed a comedy this funny, or a comedic star turn this dazzling, in at least a decade.”
Broderick, a two-time Tony winner for the play “Brighton Beach Memoirs” and the musical “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” seemed to enjoy the evening with his children. The family posed for photos in the sweltering NYC temperatures, all smiles until James attempted to put his arm around Loretta’s shoulder, resulting in the 15-year-old hilariously pulling a face and playfully pushing his arm away.
An insider tells Page Six that the foursome loved the campy comedy. Broderick, who married Sarah Jessica Parker in 1997, welcomed James in 2002 and twins, Loretta and Tabitha, in 2009. Last month, Parker, 59, celebrated her girls’ birthday on Instagram, writing, “2 divine 15 year olds. We are so lucky and we love you so. Happy birthday to our dearest Loretta and Tabitha. Celebrating you both today was pure joy. X, Mama.”
The couple has largely raised their children out of the spotlight, rarely bringing them to red carpets. The last time the entire family posed for photographers was in December 2022 at the Broadway opening of “Some Like it Hot.”
Meanwhile, “Oh, Mary!” has been a hit, with Escola telling the Post in an exclusive interview earlier this year that the play is “about me and my insecurities and my dreams all dialed up to a million.” It wasn’t the first time that Broderick has seen the show. He and Parker caught the show when it was playing off-Broadway back in April. Parker shared her excitement on social media, writing, “OH MARY. Oh heaven. Oh bliss. Oh joy. We feel so lucky to have been witness,” and encouraged people to go see this “CLASSIC.”
