Shailene Woodley is set to bring raw and honest stories of women to life in the trailer for Starz’s limited series “Three Women,” based on Lisa Taddeo’s bestselling book. The series, created by Taddeo, also stars Betty Gilpin as Lina, DeWanda Wise as Sloane, Gabrielle Creevy as Maggie, Blair Underwood as Richard, and Jason Ralph as Aaron.
The 10-episode series paints a nuanced portrait of female desire through the compelling stories of three women who are on a path to radically change their lives. Lina, a homemaker in suburban Indiana, embarks on an affair that transforms her life after a decade of a passionless marriage. Sloane, a glamorous entrepreneur in the Northeast, finds her committed open marriage threatened by two new strangers. Maggie, a student in North Dakota, faces an intense storm after accusing her married English teacher of an inappropriate relationship.
In the trailer, Woodley’s character Gia, a writer grieving the loss of her family, sets out on a solo driving trip across the country. During her journey, she discovers the stories of these three women and persuades them to share their experiences, which in turn changes her life forever. “More than I wanted to tell their stories, I wanted to hear them myself,” Woodley’s Gia says in a voiceover. “They all had the audacity to believe they deserved more.”
Laura Eason serves as the series showrunner, with Taddeo also serving as an executive producer alongside Kathy Ciric and Emmy Rossum. “I wanted to tell the world their story,” Woodley concludes in the footage. “Our particular pains come from wound sites we can’t see on one another. The thing we can do to understand is to listen, to really listen.”
“Three Women” debuts on Starz on September 13.

Our particular pain comes from wound sites we can’t see on one another. The thing we can do to understand is to listen, to really listen,” she adds.
Earlier this week, Taddeo reflected on writing “Three Women” in a candid Instagram post. “Lina’s story in ‘Three Women’ was one of the easiest for me to write, in large part because I identified with many of her traumas, and I was able to convey enough of my own experience so that she felt understood enough to so very eloquently communicate her own. Naturally then I was nervous about its retelling on the screen,” she wrote.
DeWanda Wise becomes intertwined with the lives of other women with vastly different lives in the new Starz series, “Three Women.” The newly-released first trailer for the series shows just how the women illustrate some of the problems occurring in everyday women’s lives. Based on the book by Lisa Taddeo, “Three Women” allows its characters to show varying emotions ranging from grief, lust, fear, and more as they share their stories to a writer also facing the woes of life.

Laura Eason is the series showrunner, and “Three Women” author Taddeo serves as creator and executive producer. Kathy Ciric and Emmy Rossum also serve as executive producers. The show was originally greenlit by Showtime, which planned for a 2022 release. However, after Showtime merged with Paramount+, the completed, unaired series was scrapped. Showtime also canceled two other series, “Let the Right One In” and “American Gigolo.” Starz later acquired “Three Women” after it was additionally shopped to HBO and Amazon.
The series marks actress Woodley’s return to TV reign. The “Big Little Lies” alum recently also starred in docuseries “Hope in the Water,” which reunited her with producer David E. Kelley. “David E. Kelley reached out to me to be a part of ‘Hope in the Water’ as we had talked about our mutual affections for the ocean and specifically his fish farm while working on ‘Big Little Lies,’” Woodley told IndieWire. “I really responded to the narrative of hope, specifically that this series uses it as its North Star. It is so refreshing that in a time of so much chaos, fear, and unknowns, there is a show that is offering tangible solutions and ways for all of us to be more involved in creating a more symbiotic future.”
