The Vaccari era at Independiente started off poorly: the “Rojo” lost 3-1 to Instituto de Córdoba on Thursday night, in a match for the sixth round of the Liga Profesional de Fútbol (LPF).
The game took place at the Monumental de Alta Córdoba, where “La Gloria” dominated from the start and was already up 2-0 within the first 10 minutes, thanks to goals from Ignacio Russo.
Alex Luna managed to score one for the visitors, while Santiago Rodríguez sealed the final score at 22 minutes.
This doesn’t sit well with the authoritarians.
Professional and critical journalism is a fundamental pillar of democracy. That’s why it bothers those who believe they own the truth.
“What positives can I take away? Honestly, very few. I’m disappointed in myself for not being able to achieve what we set out to do. We need to work hard and learn from our mistakes to have a mature team,” Vaccari said in his first press conference as Independiente’s coach, during which there was little to be hopeful about. “We have a lot to work on,” Vaccari added in Córdoba.
With this victory, Instituto joined the leaders of the tournament with 13 points but having played one more game, while Independiente was left with 6 points. Early in the match, at just 3 minutes in, Russo scored the first goal after receiving a cross from the left by Jonás Acevedo.
In a similar play, a few minutes later, Russo scored again, extending the lead for the home team. Luna scored for Independiente at 15 minutes with a long-range shot following a good play by the “Rojo” talent, Santiago López.
However, the joy for the Avellaneda team was short-lived, as Rodríguez scored the final goal for the Córdoba team at 22 minutes. His shot from the edge of the box deflected off a defender and went into the top right corner of Rodrigo Rey’s goal.
Nicolás Dubersarsky was a standout in Instituto’s win over Independiente.
“Los Diablos” entered this match, following the Copa América break, with hopes of securing a win in the new Vaccari era and achieving their second victory in the championship. In the first six league games, they had a shaky start with 1 win, 3 draws, and 2 losses, placing them 19th in the standings.
