A man was stoned to death while defending a woman who was being assaulted by her partner in Guaymallén, Mendoza. The crime occurred on Saturday afternoon and the victim, Osvaldo Ricardo Ramos, was attacked. Police have detained a 19-year-old suspect in connection with the incident.
According to MDZOL, the incident began around 2 PM at the intersection of Rosario Narváez and Serú streets in the Buena Nueva neighborhood of Greater Mendoza. Ramos, who was with a friend in a Toyota Hilux truck, witnessed a heated argument between a couple.
Ramos decided to get out of the truck to assist the woman, which led to her partner attacking him and throwing stones at the vehicle. As more people gathered around, the woman managed to escape, prompting Ramos to get back into the truck to flee. However, the situation had escalated, and objects continued to be thrown at the Hilux.
Confronted by the growing chaos, Ramos got out of the vehicle again, but the group continued to pelt stones. Ramos was hit on the head, lost consciousness, and subsequently died. The attackers then fled the scene.
Police later detained the 19-year-old suspect in the Las Viñas neighborhood and are searching for others involved in the violence. The case is being investigated by Homicide Prosecutor Gustavo Pirrello, as reported by Diario UNO.
