Joe Manganiello has refuted SofĂa Vergara’s claims regarding the reasons behind their marriage ending. The 47-year-old actor separated from the Colombian star, who has a 32-year-old son named Manolo from her previous marriage to Joe González, earlier this year after nearly a decade together. While Vergara suggested that their split stemmed from his desire to have children, which she did not share, Manganiello has provided a different perspective.
In an interview with Men’s Journal, he stated, "That’s not true. We tried to start a family during the first year and a half. We had a big conversation at the beginning, within the first month of dating. I said, ‘If you no longer want to have kids, I understand. Just tell me what the situation is, and that’s fine.’ But that wasn’t the case with her. I promised I wouldn’t leave if it didn’t work out, and I didn’t. The end of our relationship was not solely due to that reason. It was because two people grew apart, and sometimes that just happens."
These comments come after the 52-year-old actress of Modern Family explicitly stated that doubts about becoming a "geriatric mother" played a significant role in their divorce. She emphasized that she does not judge anyone who chooses to become a mother at an older age.
In her remarks to El PaĂs, SofĂa explained, "My marriage broke down because my husband was younger; he wanted to have children, and I didn’t want to be an old mother. I don’t think it’s fair to the baby. I respect those who choose to do it, but that’s not for me. I had a child at 19, who is now 32, and I’m ready to be a grandmother, not a mother again. So, if love comes along, it has to come with [its own] children. I am also in menopause; it’s part of nature."
