John Cena has announced his retirement from WWE, set for 2025.
The former wrestler turned actor made this revelation during the Money in the Bank event in Toronto, Canada, over the weekend. At 47 years old, Cena addressed the crowd, saying, “Tonight, I announce my retirement from WWE. I’ve heard mixed opinions. There may be many questions, right? Like, why here? I want to talk about that for a moment. I want to talk about Toronto. In fact, I want to talk about Canada. I want to talk about Canadians.”
He reflected on his lengthy career, spanning more than two decades with WWE. Throughout this time, he has experienced incredible success, such as the current wave of prosperity WWE enjoys. However, he has also faced significant challenges. “There were times when nobody knew my name, and no one wanted to be my friend, except for the most devoted fans,” he shared.
Cena expressed deep gratitude for the unwavering support he received from Canadian fans. “In all those years, one of the most important things I learned was that, regardless of whether WWE was hot or cold, Canadians were always there. You have all built this to what it is today, making this the perfect place for me to share what I have to say.”
He continued to thank the audience, saying, “Thank you for letting me perform in the house you built over so many years. Thank you for your strong voices, your brutal honesty, and most of all, thank you for allowing me to be here with you tonight.”
Looking ahead, Cena shared plans for a final tour with WWE in 2025, during which he will participate in major events like the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania.
Since signing with WWE in 2001, Cena has won the world championship 16 times. He has transitioned to part-time acting since 2018, balancing his evolving career while cherishing his wrestling legacy.
