Spanish tennis player Alejandro Davidovich has progressed to the round of 16 at the ATP 250 tournament in Atlanta, USA. He secured his spot after defeating French player Arthur Cazaux in his opening match with a score of 6-2, 7-6(4). Unfortunately, Jaume Munar in Kitzbühel, Austria, and Nuria Párrizas and Leyre Romero in Iasi, Romania, were eliminated in the first round of their respective tournaments.
Davidovich, who opted out of the Olympic Games in early July to focus on his back health, began his North American tour with this win. He dominated the match, taking less than two hours to complete it and never allowing Cazaux to break his serve.
Ranked 43rd in the world and the fifth seed at the Atlanta tournament, he capitalized on two of the three break points he had in the first set to take an early lead. In the second set, after neither player managed to break the other’s serve, Davidovich won in the tiebreak. He will now face the winner of the match between American players Reilly Opelka and Aleksandar Kovacevic in the next round.
In Kitzbühel, Munar, ranked 65th globally, also faced a tough match, falling in the first round to German Yannick Hanfmann with scores of 6-3, 6-4. Munar lost the first set after conceding the only break point of that set in the second game. In the second set, he again lost his serve early but managed to break back with his fourth chance during a white game to tie it at 3-3. However, Hanfmann broke him again in the ninth game and closed out the match after about an hour and a half.
In the WTA 250 tournament in Iasi, both Nuria Párrizas and Leyre Romero exited in the opening round. Párrizas, ranked 137th in the world, lost to Croatian Petra Martic with a score of 6-4, 6-4, despite leading in both sets. Meanwhile, 22-year-old Romero, who is ranked 179th, was defeated by Russian Elina Avanesyan with a score of 6-1, 6-2.
