Brooke Shields is incredibly busy, to the point that she has stopped sleeping. The 59-year-old actress launched Commence, a hair care line designed for women over 40, earlier this year. Alongside her career, she is also a dedicated mother to her two children, Rowan, who is 21, and Grier, who is 18. Both children are from her marriage to film producer Chris Henchy, who is 60. Recently, Brooke revealed that her hectic schedule has left her in a state of chronic exhaustion and insomnia.
This revelation came during a Q&A session she shared on Instagram to promote her hair care line. When IV Juice Bar asked her, “How does your soul feel? I’m a tired mom and business owner,” Brooke candidly replied, “My soul is fine. If you’re a mom, you’re tired. If you’re a businesswoman, you’re tired. So I’m always tired. The really surprising thing is that at a certain age, I’ve stopped sleeping. It’s not for the faint of heart. It’s all very hard.”
Despite her busy lifestyle, Brooke emphasized the importance of the things that truly matter to her. “I think, deep down, what really matters to me is my family, their health, and the fact that I’m standing upright—those things nourish my soul,” she said.
As a successful model and actress, Brooke revealed that she does not want her teenage daughter to pursue modeling, although she respects her daughter’s choices. Brooke has shared her experiences of being sexualized as a child star and the sexual abuse she faced, which led her to struggle for a long time to keep Grier away from the entertainment industry. However, she recognizes that times have changed since she started her career.
During an appearance on “Live with Kelly and Mark,” Brooke discussed Grier’s budding modeling career. “The rules have changed since I was modeling. I fought against this idea for a long time, but now it’s such a different industry,” she explained. Grier is taking on “small jobs here and there,” but Brooke noted that social media creates a lot of pressure for models today.
“When I was a model, there was no social media,” Brooke remarked, calling the modeling world a “rat race.” She expressed her concerns and admitted that she panicked when she found out Grier was interested in runway modeling, describing it as “brutal.” She never participated in runway shows herself, believing she wouldn’t have been able to handle the intensity.
Once Brooke accepted her daughter’s desire to pursue a career in modeling, she established some ground rules. “I told her, ‘You need to have a strong work ethic; it’s not going to be comfortable, and you have to listen to me—those are my rules.'”
