Elkin de Jesús Navas Ortega, known on social media as “Postica Azaro,” was tragically murdered early on the morning of July 22 in a neighborhood in Cartagena. According to police reports, the assailant, riding as a passenger on a motorcycle, shot him at point-blank range without any prior confrontation.
The incident occurred at a commercial establishment in the San Pedro area of the capital of BolÃvar department, where Navas was reportedly socializing with friends at the time. Local news outlets, such as Cartagena Caliente, reported that the victim lingered for several moments, surrounded by horrified onlookers. Authorities in Cartagena are actively working to identify and capture those responsible for this homicide.
Navas, who was 37 years old, was a well-known figure in the Torices community and on Santa Fe Street, where he grew up. His videos and photos on social media, featuring him dancing and creating memes, earned him a large following and affection from many.
Messages of condolence from friends and fans have poured onto Facebook and Telegram, expressing their grief. Phrases like “You left us, Postica Azaro, without words” and “May God grant you eternal rest and forgive your sins” have circulated widely.
The family of Elkin de Jesús Navas Ortega is devastated by his loss. His cousin, Jorge Navas, spoke to the press, stating that he was an exemplary person, and they cannot fathom who could commit such an act against him.
The murder of Navas Ortega adds to a disturbing wave of violence connected to contract killings that has left many residents of Cartagena on edge. Just hours before, another man, Javier RodrÃguez Amador, was also killed in the La Florida neighborhood. In the past nine days, there have been 14 homicides recorded in Cartagena, with 10 attributed to contract killings, according to local police data.
The violence over the previous weekend included the murders of Jairo Javier Gil RodrÃguez and Domingo Vásquez MejÃa, both on July 20, in San Fernando and El Pozón, respectively. They were shot by assailants on motorcycles during daylight hours, leaving several others injured, including a woman.
In response to this surge in violence, local authorities have heightened security measures in Cartagena. Colonel Jorge Carrillo, the commander of the Metropolitan Police, assured the public of their commitment to bring criminals to justice and restore peace to the community.
On the same morning of Navas’ murder, a security guard, Nader Antonio Puello Alcalá, tragically died in a motorcycle accident in the Route 90 area of Cartagena. Preliminary investigations suggest he lost control of his motorcycle near a curve, leading to a fall into a small ravine, though some witnesses believe it may have been connected to a potential robbery.
Residents discovered Puello Alcalá’s body at dawn and alerted the authorities. He was found in his work uniform with a backpack nearby. The Criminalistics agents from the Administrative Department of Transit and Transportation (DATT) identified the victim using his documents. His body was then taken to the morgue, awaiting the arrival of family members for necessary arrangements.
