In recent weeks, an old attempt at virtual fraud has resurfaced on social media. This dangerous scam uses the name and image of Correo Argentino to collect personal and banking information from unsuspecting users.
Fraudsters send misleading text messages (SMS) that direct users to a counterfeit website mimicking the official Correo Argentino page. Victims are asked to enter their ID number, phone number, and credit or debit card details to supposedly release a package that is “waiting” for them.
These deceptive messages often state: “The delivery of your package has been paused because the shipping address information is incomplete. The shipment has been returned to the logistics center. Please update your address, and we will arrange for delivery.” This technique, known as phishing, aims to steal personal information.
While this type of scam isn’t new, many people continue to fall for it, and Correo Argentino remains vigilant in warning the public about it. The company has reiterated that if you’ve sent anything with them, you will never receive these types of text messages.
In light of numerous reports regarding this issue, Correo Argentino advises individuals to avoid clicking on the links provided, check the domain and authenticity of any website, and refrain from giving away personal, banking, or credit card information.
To prevent falling victim to such scams, the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights of the Nation suggests checking the sender’s information before opening any email or message. It’s important to compare the sender with previous communications, verify if the URL is the official website of the company, and reach out to customer service if you have any doubts before responding.
