On May 2, a couple was found dead in an abandoned area in Monte Grande, revealing a clear case of double homicide. The male victim, identified as 41-year-old Paraguayan Juan Peralta, was shot in the chest, while the female victim, 24-year-old Peruvian Esthefany Milagros Casimiro Ventocilla, had been shot in the head. Their bodies were discovered approximately 150 meters apart. Initially, investigators considered the possibility of a robbery gone wrong; however, both victims had their phones and some cash on them, suggesting otherwise. The evidence pointed towards a professional hit.
Last week, detectives from the Buenos Aires Homicide Department arrested three suspects, including 49-year-old Víctor Manuel Benítez, a Paraguayan believed to be the leader of a drug-dealing gang operating in Esteban Echeverría. Investigators linked him to the orders for the murders of Peralta and Casimiro.
On Tuesday, authorities discovered that Benítez was using an alias. He had entered Argentina under this false name years ago and had even managed to obtain an Argentine ID. His capture reportedly startled Paraguayan authorities, as he had unresolved issues back in Paraguay.
As a part of the investigation, investigators analyzed his fingerprints and found that his real name is Osvaldo Agüero Núñez, confirmed by Paraguay’s SIFCOP system. The Paraguayan justice system believes he has ties to the EPP, or Paraguayan People’s Army, which is known for its paramilitary activities. Agüero also has outstanding arrest warrants for multiple offenses, including two robberies and two homicides committed in 2006 and 2007. Authorities plan to consult Interpol for further action, as his extradition will be handled by federal justice.
