Emilia Clarke feels she has "a lot more acting to do" before shifting her focus to directing. The 37-year-old star is best recognized for her role as Daenerys Targaryen in HBO’s fantasy series, Game of Thrones. She has expressed her intention to continue acting for many more years.
When asked about her plans to step behind the camera, Emilia told PEOPLE magazine, "Oh my God, later for sure. It’s something I would love. What I enjoy the most is helping people record their auditions. I say, ‘Yes, I’ll do it.’ I love it. However, at this moment, I feel like I have a lot more acting left to do."
Emilia acknowledges that directing is a much larger commitment. Nonetheless, she plans to make the transition later in her career. She explained, "The problem with being a director is that you need two years of your life to dedicate exclusively to that. And I say, ‘Yes, but right now I would prefer to act rather than direct.’ But I would love for my career to end there. That would be amazing."
In the meantime, the actress recently admitted that she "still can’t" watch House of the Dragon, the spin-off series of Game of Thrones. Born in London, Emilia starred in Game of Thrones from 2011 to 2019. She shared with the same publication, "I still can’t [watch the series]. I just don’t know what it is."
Emilia has fond memories of her time on the HBO show, which makes her reluctance to see the spin-off feel "strange." She reflected, "I feel so happy and content with my experience that I think watching the new one would feel so odd, I think."
