Isabel Rodríguez, the Minister of Housing and Urban Agenda, has called on Alberto Núñez Feijóo, the leader of the PP (People’s Party), to abandon what she refers to as “destructive opposition” for the sake of Spain and its citizens. She made these remarks on Wednesday in Poblete, Ciudad Real, in response to Feijóo’s assertion that Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez is “knocked out” and that the current legislative term is “exhausted.”
Rodríguez’s statements came a day after the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party) faced two parliamentary defeats regarding budgetary stability and the reform of the Immigration Law. She emphasized that these setbacks do not affect the government itself but rather harm municipalities and autonomous communities. As a result of the PP’s “irresponsible decision,” essential public investment policies related to youth, education, health care, and social services will be hindered.
“One year later, Mr. Feijóo still does not understand what happened in Spain,” said the minister. “The Spanish people clearly expressed their will at the polls, showing absolute rejection of his party, just as we are witnessing similar sentiments against the PP and Vox alliance in other European countries.”
Rodríguez argued that Feijóo should have taken the past year to reflect on the clear message sent by voters. She insisted that, out of respect for Spain and its citizens, he should step away from this harmful approach to opposition. Instead of contributing to constructive solutions, she criticized the negativity that emerges from political discourse, which only serves to harm vulnerable groups, including immigrant children who rely on public support. She expressed hope that Feijóo would not need another year to grasp what transpired in Spain on July 23.
