Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez will visit Veltium, a small and medium-sized enterprise specializing in electric vehicle charging solutions, in Vitoria-Gasteiz this Friday. The company has significant experience in sustainable mobility, as noted by the Presidency.
This visit precedes a scheduled meeting between Sánchez and the Basque President, Imanol Pradales. Pradales had requested this meeting after taking on his new responsibilities in Lehendakaritza, the Basque government’s headquarters.
The meeting is set to begin around 11:30 AM at the Ajuria Enea Palace in Vitoria. Sánchez aims to attend this important engagement between the two leaders. It is anticipated that this interaction could reinforce discussions about the transfer of competencies to the Basque Country, an issue highlighted in the investment pact between the PNV and PSOE last October. The Lehendakari considers this transfer "key" and has plans to promote a new Statutory Pact during this legislative term.
Prior to meeting with the Lehendakari, Sánchez’s itinerary includes a visit to Veltium at 10:15 AM. Founded in 2018, this Basque startup focuses on developing, manufacturing, and marketing hardware and software solutions for electric vehicle charging.
Accompanied by María Soledad Garmendia, the Government Delegate in the Basque Country, Sánchez will tour Veltium’s facilities and see the charging systems they have developed firsthand.
In a related context, Sánchez recently visited another major company in Vitoria, Mercedes Benz, where he observed ongoing expansions and redesign efforts aimed at producing electric vehicles starting in 2026. During that visit, he emphasized the automotive sector’s importance and announced forthcoming calls for the Electric and Connected Vehicle Project (Perte VEC), which has a budget exceeding 1.7 billion euros.
