Queens of the Stone Age have announced the cancellation of all their August 2024 concerts in Europe, as frontman Josh Homme requires ongoing medical care following an emergency surgery. The band shared this news via social media, stating, “Due to continued medical care, it is under doctors’ orders that Josh Homme remain in their care in the United States.” They expressed gratitude for the support and understanding from fans during this challenging time.
The canceled shows include performances at several major festivals, such as the Way Out West Festival in Gothenburg, Sweden, on August 8, the Oya Festival in Oslo, Norway, on August 9, and the Lowlands Festival in the Netherlands on August 16. Other affected dates include the Syd For Solen Festival in Copenhagen, Denmark, on August 10, the Cabaret Vert Festival in Charleville-Merieres, France, on August 15, the Pukkelpop Festival in Hasselt, Belgium, on August 18, and the Villar De Mouros Festival in Portugal on August 21.
This announcement follows the earlier cancellation of eight European tour dates in July, which was also attributed to Homme’s health issues. The band had to cancel their appearance at the AMA Music Festival in Italy on July 5 due to illness, and their last performance took place on July 6 in Milan, Italy.
Queens of the Stone Age’s current tour, titled “The End Is Nero,” supports their eighth studio album, “In Times New Roman…,” which was released in June 2023. The album has been praised for its raw and heavy sound, showcasing Homme’s songwriting and the band’s signature style. The group had been looking forward to performing live after a lengthy hiatus, with their last show prior to this tour occurring in 2020.
While the specifics of Homme’s medical condition remain undisclosed, he has been candid about his health struggles in the past. In 2022, he revealed that he had been diagnosed with a form of cancer and underwent surgery to address it. The band has not provided any updates on Homme’s current health status, leaving fans concerned but hopeful for his recovery.
The cancellation of these shows has left both the band and their fans disappointed. In their previous statements, QOTSA expressed their regret over the situation, emphasizing their desire to perform and connect with their audience. They acknowledged the frustration and disappointment felt by fans and apologized for any inconvenience caused by the cancellations.
As the band prepares to return to the stage in September for their U.S. tour, they remain focused on Homme’s health and recovery. The next scheduled performance is set for September 27 at the MGM Music Hall at Fenway in Boston. Fans are encouraged to stay updated through official channels for any further announcements regarding Homme’s condition and the band’s future performances.
The outpouring of support from fans and the music community has been a source of comfort for both Homme and the band during this difficult time. As they navigate these challenges, the hope remains that Homme will make a full recovery and that Queens of the Stone Age will return to the stage stronger than ever.
