Jordan Chiles, a talented gymnast, is set to compete in her second Olympics, and her parents, Gina and Timothy Chiles, will be there to support her every step of the way. Jordan, 23, has often expressed her gratitude for her parents, acknowledging the sacrifices they have made throughout her journey. “They are on this journey with me and still making sacrifices,” she said. “This sport is tough on the athletes, but the parents go through every emotion too—especially my mom who cannot watch me without almost passing out.”
Gina Chiles has been a significant influence in Jordan’s life. “My mom has been my biggest supporter from the beginning,” Jordan shared. “She helped me to remember that my dream was mine and mine alone. It was up to me to give the power to people who would fuel my journey or to change directions and walk away on my own terms. She taught me that no one had the power to just take it away. She is my rock.”
Timothy Chiles, Jordan’s father, also plays a crucial role in her life. “He is the person I need in the toughest moments because he has a way of comforting me when I feel overwhelmed,” Jordan said. “There is nothing like the arms of my dad to make me feel like everything will somehow be okay.”
Gina Chiles is a senior pastor at According to His Word Worship Center in Vancouver, Washington, and she is also a children’s book author. Her book, “Dream Big Little Chick,” was inspired by Jordan’s gymnastics career and reflects the encouragement she has always provided her daughter. “Ever since I was little, she always told me, ‘There’s only one Jordan, so be the best Jordan you can be,'” Jordan recalled.
In 2021, Gina faced legal troubles when she pled guilty to wire fraud, admitting to stealing from clients and spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on personal expenses. She was sentenced to one year and one day in prison but was released four months early for good behavior. Despite this setback, Gina remained a steadfast supporter of Jordan, even managing to watch her compete in the Tokyo Olympics before beginning her sentence.
Timothy Chiles is also a senior pastor and founded the According to His Word church in 2007. He has a rich history of ministry, having traveled the nation alongside his father, ministering in various churches and tent revivals. He is also the president of Better Life Crusades, an international outreach ministry. Timothy was instrumental in introducing Jordan to gymnastics, taking her to a gym when she was just seven years old, after realizing her high energy levels needed an outlet.
Jordan is the youngest of five children, with four older siblings: Jazmin, Jade, Tajmen, and Tyrus. Each sibling has carved out their own path, with Jazmin owning a beauty and styling company, Jade running a wedding planning business, and Tajmen working in sales. Tyrus, the youngest brother, has a daughter and enjoys music and motorcycles.
Interestingly, Jordan was named after basketball legend Michael Jordan, a testament to her mother’s love for sports. “She is literally in love with sports,” Jordan said of Gina. The family often refers to Jordan by her nickname, “Chick,” which has become a term of endearment within the family.
Gina and Timothy have always emphasized the importance of family support. Despite their challenges, they have remained united in their commitment to Jordan’s success. “They are still on this journey with me and still making sacrifices,” Jordan reiterated, highlighting the emotional rollercoaster that comes with being an athlete.
As Jordan prepares for the upcoming Olympics, her parents continue to be her biggest fans. They can often be seen in the stands, cheering her on and celebrating her achievements. “Jordan on an imperfect day still SHINES BIG and makes it a good day,” Gina expressed on social media, showcasing her unwavering pride in her daughter.
Jordan’s journey has not been without its hurdles, but the support of her parents has been a constant source of strength. “Every moment that I watch Jordan is the most amazing moment as a mom,” Gina said, reflecting on the joy and pride she feels as her daughter competes at the highest level.
As the Olympics approach, the Chiles family remains a tight-knit unit, ready to face whatever challenges come their way. With Gina and Timothy by her side, Jordan Chiles is poised to make her mark on the world stage once again.
