Trina McGee, known for her role in the beloved 90s sitcom “Boy Meets World,” has announced that she is expecting her fourth child at the age of 54. The actress shared the surprising news on Instagram on Monday, June 3, accompanied by the classic tune “Baby Love” by The Supremes.
“At the tender age of 54, I have found myself pregnant,” McGee wrote in her post. “Please bless us with your prayers for a safe delivery. Thank you.” She also mentioned that she would be taking a break from social media, adding, “Thanks for your prayers and well wishes in advance.”
McGee, who portrayed Angela Moore, the love interest of Shawn Hunter (played by Rider Strong) from 1997 to 2000, is already a mother to three children. She shares two of her children with her ex-husband Randall Courtland Davis, and has one child from a previous relationship.
Fans quickly noticed her baby bump in a photo she posted from her vacation in Malacate Beach, Belize. In the picture, McGee is seen wearing a blue halter top and a long white skirt. When a fan commented, “The bump!” McGee simply replied, “Yup.”
McGee has been married to actor and producer Marcello Thedford since 2008. The couple met nearly three decades ago while filming Sylvester Stallone’s 1996 action-thriller “Daylight.” McGee’s other TV and film credits include popular 90s series such as “Martin,” “Family Matters,” and “The Sinbad Show.” More recently, she appeared in the Tubi Original movie “Classmates,” directed by her former co-star Danielle Fishel.
In April, McGee revealed on Instagram that she was six months pregnant with her third child while filming the fifth season of “Boy Meets World.” She shared a video set to Brandy’s hit song “Baby,” showing stills from an episode where her baby bump was cleverly concealed by a loose cardigan.
McGee’s announcement has been met with an outpouring of support and congratulations from fans. Many were amazed by her age-defying appearance, with one fan joking, “54?!?! Years old?!?! I mean yeah congratulations on the baby but how are you 54?!” Another fan added, “Yeah, but in Trina McGee years you’re still only in your thirties.”
McGee’s pregnancy at 54 is not entirely unique among celebrities. In recent months, Cameron Diaz and her husband Benji Madden welcomed their son when Diaz was 51. Supermodel Naomi Campbell also gave birth to her second child at the age of 53.
While McGee has mostly kept her personal life private, she has been open about her experiences on “Boy Meets World” and its revival, “Girl Meets World.” In January 2020, she tweeted about being labeled as “Aunt Jemima” by a cast member on the original series and feeling unwelcome on the Disney Channel spinoff.
Danielle Fishel, who played Topanga Lawrence on both shows, later apologized for her behavior. “I owed @realtrinamcgee an apology for being rude, cold, & distant when she guest-starred on GMW,” Fishel tweeted. “Trina and I spoke over a month ago and she gracefully accepted my apology.”
McGee also addressed the incident in an interview, stating that her relationship with Fishel is now “decent” and that they are “very complimentary of each other.” She added, “She goes out of her way to say, ‘Hey, are you OK?’ She actually just sent me a cute picture of her baby.”
McGee also opened up about the “Aunt Jemima” comments made by Will Friedle, who played Eric Matthews. She revealed that Friedle had apologized to her and that the incident had changed his perception of comedy and humanity. “He conveyed to me how much this has changed his perception of comedy. And humanity,” McGee said.
In 2022, McGee appeared as one of the first guests on Friedle, Fishel, and Strong’s rewatch podcast “Pod Meets World.” During the podcast, Friedle admitted that his tension with McGee had ultimately “changed [his] life.” He said, “You can’t just say stuff. You can’t just throw things out there because you think it’s funny and walk away. You could be hurting people.”
Trina McGee’s pregnancy announcement has brought joy to her fans and serves as a reminder of her enduring presence in the entertainment industry. As she prepares to welcome her fourth child, her supporters are eagerly sending their prayers and well wishes for a safe and healthy delivery.
