Los Angeles’ Superior Court is currently closed due to a cyberattack that affected its computer systems last Friday. According to judicial authorities, they are actively working to restore services.
This closure impacts all 36 courthouses within the county. Officials have stated that this incident is unrelated to the recent global outage of Microsoft systems. Chief Judge Samantha Jessner indicated in a statement that many systems remained offline on Sunday night, leading to an extension of the shutdown for an additional day. There is hope that service will resume by Tuesday.
The affected judicial systems include the My Jury Duty portal, where potential jurors receive information, as well as the court’s main website and other services.
The Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office has assured that they are in constant communication with the court to ensure their clients’ rights are protected during this disruption.
The Los Angeles Superior Court is the largest unified court system in the United States, serving over 10 million residents across 36 courthouses. In 2022, nearly 1.2 million cases were filed, and approximately 2,200 jury trials took place.
The ongoing situation highlights the importance of cybersecurity measures for public institutions. As the recovery progresses, court officials and staff are doing everything possible to minimize disruptions for the community they serve.
