‘BABYMONSTER,’ the rookie girl group from YG Entertainment, is stepping out from their ‘video star’ status to make a grand entrance into the world.
Announcing their comeback, they are moving away from a reclusive approach to embrace a more public presence. Despite previously competing only through music videos, they have made a significant impact, earning the ‘monster rookie’ title.
Their first confirmed stage is notably grand, being part of ‘Summer Sonic,’ a leading music festival in Japan.
Although the festival is scheduled for summer, BABYMONSTER’s early announcement of their appearance indicates a strong intention to establish their presence through the prestigious Summer Sonic event.
Set to take place in Chiba Prefecture at the Zozo Marine Stadium and the Makuhari Messe, both indoor and outdoor mega stages, Summer Sonic is a massive urban music festival in Japan that features top local artists and world-renowned musicians.
Meanwhile, BABYMONSTER has stirred interest by releasing a ‘full group shot,’ confirming the participation of member Ahyeon, whose debut was previously delayed due to health issues.
As part of their comeback schedule coinciding with the release of a new album in April, YG Entertainment revealed a photo over the weekend showing all seven members, including Ahyeon, together for the first time since BABYMONSTER’s official debut last year. The photo quickly spread on social media, sparking explosive responses and hinting at the global fandom’s anticipation for the group’s complete return.
BABYMONSTER is set to release their first physical (mini) album at midnight on April 1. The album name, ‘BABYMONS7ER,’ transforms the English name of BABYMONSTER by replacing ‘T’ with ‘7,’ emphasizing the complete group activity with all seven members.
Since their official debut late last year, BABYMONSTER has continuously built up their status as a leading fifth-generation girl group by releasing their debut song ‘Batter Up’ and the follow-up ‘Stuck in the Middle’ in just four months.
Throughout this period, they have drawn attention by adopting a mystique strategy, restraining from all external activities except for music videos and related content. Their music videos for ‘Batter Up’ and ‘Stuck in the Middle’ have garnered significant attention, surpassing 200 million and 100 million views on YouTube, respectively.
BABYMONSTER follows in the footsteps of YG’s 7-year cycle of girl groups, succeeding 2NE1 and BLACKPINK, and is composed of members from Korea, Japan, and Thailand, showcasing a multinational structure.
