The BBC announced on Tuesday that it will eliminate an additional 500 jobs by the end of March 2026. This decision adds to a significant reduction of 10% of its workforce over the past five years.
As part of its annual report, the UK public broadcasting group revealed that it has seen a reduction of nearly 2,000 positions in the last five years. In a statement, the BBC noted, "By the end of March 2026, we expect a decrease of approximately 500 public service roles."
In addition to an annual savings plan of £500 million (around $650 million) that was announced two years ago, the BBC is now implementing a new cost-cutting initiative of an additional £200 million, which was introduced in March.
The BBC, a key player in the UK’s media landscape, has faced considerable criticism, particularly from the Conservative Party, which lost power to the Labour Party in the general elections held on July 4.
