Oskar Matute, the spokesperson for EH Bildu in Congress, has acknowledged that the current legislative period has been tumultuous from the very beginning. He emphasized that the dynamics in Catalonia have significantly influenced the voting patterns in Congress, particularly referring to the rejection of budget stability objectives by Junts.
In an interview with RNE, Matute pointed out that the decisions made in Congress have been shaped more by the political context than by the content of the proposals. He specifically mentioned the opposition from Junts to the government’s objectives concerning budget stability and public debt, which has impeded the initial steps toward the approval of the 2025 Budget.
Matute warned the government that if it aims to sustain the level of support it originally received for its investiture, it will need to engage in negotiations with its partners. He referred to the Democratic Regeneration Plan, highlighting the necessity for collaborative efforts.
He noted that the coalition partners had shown receptiveness and expressed hope that the government would eventually present a draft that incorporates various initiatives from different parties after this round of discussions. Matute stated that it was his parliamentary group that initially raised issues they believed were essential for advancing the agenda of democratic regeneration, aiming to create a more conducive environment for all involved.
