Brazilian Musician Dies After Being Electrocuted on Stage

Brazilian Musician Ayres Sasaki Dies at 35 During Concert in Salinópolis

Brazilian musician Ayres Sasaki passed away at the age of 35 during a concert his band was performing in the northern city of Salinópolis. While police continue to investigate the incident, local media highlighted that the fatal shock occurred following a hug from a fan whose clothing was drenched.

The tragedy happened on the night of July 13. The local police in Salinópolis, along with the Civil Police of the state of Pará, are probing the exact cause of death. Witnesses have already given their statements, and forensic examinations have been requested. Several Brazilian media outlets, including the daily Correio Braziliense and the magazine Istoé, reported that the fan’s wet embrace led to the fatal incident.

However, other news sources like the local newspaper Diário do Pará claim that Sasaki was playing the guitar when the fatal shock occurred. Investigations are also focusing on why the fan’s clothing was soaked. Despite efforts to revive him after he collapsed, Sasaki died at the scene, in the Solar de Salinópolis hotel.

Who Was Ayres Sasaki?

Ayres Sasaki, aged 35, hailed from Belém, the capital and largest city of Pará. Apart from his career as a rock musician, which he began in 2017, performing various concerts with his band and participating in a reality TV show, he was also an architect and urban planner in the city of Aurora.

Sasaki leaves behind his wife Mariana, a nurse he married just 11 months ago, as reported by the Globo news conglomerate. “I would like to thank everyone for their messages of love and comfort, for each prayer during this difficult time we are going through,” wrote Mariana in an Instagram story.

Following his passing on the previous Saturday, a wake was held on Sunday, and he was buried in his hometown the next day. The hotel where he died suddenly issued a statement promising "support" to Sasaki’s family regarding the "necessary arrangements." “We reaffirm our commitment to fully cooperate with the competent authorities to clarify the facts,” they assured.

"Sasaki was known as the king of encores. Once, he was asked for so many encores at a private concert that he played for 12 hours straight," fondly remembered a friend and bandmate. “He enjoyed his music and making people sing along with him so much that I’m sure he had more fun than he worked during those 12 hours,” he added.
