Cabañas Museum Denies Misuse of Mural in Music Video

In a recent statement, the Cabañas Museum in Guadalajara announced that it did not grant permission for the use of images from José Clemente Orozco’s mural "Hombre en llamas" in the music video "Me pongo belikón" by Luis R. Conriquez and Máxima Ventaja. This video references Nemesio Oseguera, also known as "El Mencho," a leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).

The museum clarified that the video was not filmed on its premises, stating that the images shown do not reflect their facilities. They expressed their concern about the inappropriate use of their cultural heritage and revealed plans to pursue legal action against the creators of the video.

Moreover, the museum highlighted that the way the mural "Hombre de fuego" is featured in the music video violates Article 4 of their guidelines for the use of museum spaces, which explicitly prohibits the recording of music videos within their site.

To use the image of the renowned mural legally, permission would have needed to be obtained from both the General Directorate of the Cabañas Museum and the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL). However, the museum’s communication emphasized that such a request was never made.

"Hombre de fuego" is one of Orozco’s most iconic works, prominently displayed on the dome of the main chapel at the Hospicio Cabañas, which houses the museum. The institution remains committed to protecting and preserving its cultural and artistic heritage.
