Channel Tres has carved out his own lane in the music world in recent years. The Compton-bred rapper and producer has collaborated with artists like Tyler, the Creator, Tinashe, Disclosure, and Tove Lo. After releasing six EPs in the past six years, the “Fever Dreamer” MC’s debut studio album “Head Rush” is out now.
On “Head Rush,” Channel Tres takes center stage while showcasing just why so many have fallen in love with his sound in recent years. He first gave a look into the album with singles “Berghain” and “Cactus Water,” and on the project, he goes beyond the usual dance-tinged beats with braggadocious rap on songs like “Black & Mild” and Ty Dolla $ign collab “Holy Moly.” Throughout the project, he joins forces with hit-makers from Estelle and Ravyn Lenae to Thundercat and Toro y Moi.
As for what he raps about, Channel Tres admitted that “Head Rush” was a great way to recount some of his experiences and officially stake his claim in the music industry.
“There were things about my story that I didn’t know how to express, musically or lyrically,” he said of the project ahead of its release. “I would say my artistry has grown to a place where I’m comfortable sharing this much at one time.”
“I’m older now, and the things that I’ve accomplished tell me I’m ready to do this,” he added. “You’ve worked your whole life for this, you’ve been able to do these shows and walk into these rooms and make these songs. There’s no reason you have to live by the same insecurity that you had to use in years past.”
For years, Compton DJ, singer, and producer Channel Tres has been releasing singles and EPs. He’s now ready to release his debut studio album. The new album is called “Head Rush,” and it’s out June 28 via RCA. Channel Tres has also released a new song, “Berghain,” a collaboration with Barney Bones that’s billed as the album’s lead single.
“It’s about the time I played Berghain and how the culture in that environment made me feel, I didn’t feel weird anymore,” Channel Tres explained of his new song, named after the famed Berlin, Germany, nightclub, in a press release. “Everyone’s the same, the goal for everyone in that place is to enjoy themselves and be free, and music played a pivotal role in that. It was the main thing for me and I wanted to document that experience I had there through music so that I always have that memory in my life. So I can feel that memory while I’m performing and relive that experience.”
Channel Tres debuted in 2018 with the Godmode single “Controller.” The track, along with standouts “Jet Black” and “Glide,” featured on his debut, self-titled EP. Channel Tres released another EP, “Black Moses,” in 2019, and he has also since dropped the projects “I Can’t Go Outside,” “Refresh,” and “Real Cultural Shit.”
Channel Tres has announced his debut album “Head Rush,” due out on June 28 via RCA Records. Today, Tres is previewing the record with lead single “Berghain” featuring South L.A. artist Barney Bones. Channel Tres has unveiled the album’s tracklist and album art. Thundercat, Estelle, Ty Dolla $ign, Toro Y Moi and more are listed as featured artists. He has also shared a new music video for “Cactus Water.”
Here’s what he had to say about “Berghain”: “It’s about the time I played Berghain and how the culture in that environment made me feel, I didn’t feel weird anymore. Everyone’s the same, the goal for everyone in that place is to enjoy themselves and be free, and music played a pivotal role in that. It was the main thing for me and I wanted to document that experience I had there through music so that I always have that memory in my life. So I can feel that memory while I’m performing and relive that experience.”
