Chris Pratt Discusses Joining James Gunn’s DCU Following Superman Set Visit

Chris Pratt, known for his role as Peter Quill (aka Star-Lord) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), recently hinted at the possibility of joining the DC Universe (DCU). Following a visit to the set of James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film, Pratt expressed his openness to making the leap from Marvel to DC.

In an interview with TMZ, Pratt was asked if he would consider joining the DCU. He responded enthusiastically, “Yes, of course.” He elaborated, “If it could fit into my schedule and it made sense, I would love it. Of course, I love playing Star-Lord, and hopefully, there’s a chance that can come back. I just feel so blessed to be able to do any of it, to be considered for any of it. If it’s right and the fans would love it, I’d be more than happy to do it.”

Pratt’s comments came after James Gunn, who directed him in the Guardians of the Galaxy series, shared a photo of Pratt visiting the Superman set. Gunn captioned the post, “Always nice to have friends visiting set.”

Pratt made his MCU debut in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, directed by Gunn. They reunited for the sequels in 2017 and 2023, as well as for Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). Gunn, who took over DC Studios with Peter Safran in 2022, is currently directing Superman: Legacy, which will kick off a new DC multiverse. The film stars David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen.

Gunn has previously stated that he is open to casting MCU actors in his DCU projects. In an interview with Empire, he mentioned that a crossover between Marvel and DC is “more likely now that I’m in charge,” although he added that such a crossover is “many years away.” He emphasized that the discussions have been “very, very light and fun.”

Pratt’s Guardians co-star Pom Klementieff, who plays Mantis in the MCU, has also been in talks with Gunn about joining the DCU. During an appearance at San Antonio’s Superhero Comic Con, Klementieff revealed that she has been discussing a specific character with Gunn but declined to provide further details. “I just want to keep working with James, so we’re going to keep trying to find ways to do that,” she said.

Klementieff has appeared in several MCU films, including Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Thor: Love and Thunder. She expressed her gratitude for being part of the Marvel universe, saying, “It was always my dream to be an X-Men or part of a Marvel movie. Then, I saw the first Guardians of the Galaxy, and it became my first Marvel movie ever. Then, I got cast in the second one. I feel so lucky.”

Although Klementieff has yet to officially join the DCU, she made an uncredited cameo as a dancer in Gunn’s The Suicide Squad (2021). She remains open to reprising her role as Mantis in the MCU, stating, “I love the character. I’m sure the fans would love to see it, but I don’t know. It depends on the project.”

Gunn’s openness to casting MCU actors in the DCU and his discussions about a potential Marvel-DC crossover have fueled speculation about future collaborations. However, Gunn has emphasized that establishing the new DC multiverse is the current priority.

As for Pratt, his willingness to join the DCU and his recent visit to the Superman set have sparked excitement among fans. While he remains committed to his role as Star-Lord, the possibility of seeing him in the DCU is an intriguing prospect.
